Discussion[edit]

You spelled Australia wrong.

N. benthamiana is emerging as a model due to the complexity of its genome compared to Arabidopsis, yet the organism is still very small and easy to work with. As such, it is gaining popularity in the scientific community over N. tabacum as a model for more complex plant species. There is a recently published draft genome available at http://solgenomics.net/organism/Nicotiana_benthamiana/genome for browsing, BLAST, etc. Additionally, more of a technicality note: ethylene is a gaseous hormone, so "secretion" is an inaccurate description; secretion refers specifically to exocytosis-mediated expulsion of aqueous molecules, proteins, or particles. Ethylene is a non-polar gas, and can easily diffuse throughout the cytoplasm and across the plasma membrane into apoplastic space and the atmosphere,so does not require secretion.
