I have moved the state above the city as a more likely referent of "NY." While it's debatable which one is more important in the context of "New York," I think it's pretty clearly the state for "NY." After all, it's the official postal abbreviation for New York (state), with no other abbreviation competing for attention (e.g. California is CA but also has Calif, Cal, etc.). For New York City the canonical abbreviation is "NYC," and while the use of the abbreviation "NY" exists it's nowhere near as common. -- King of♥♦♣ ♠ 02:44, 23 February 2019 (UTC)[reply]
