Mutual Improvement Societies[edit]

Mutual Improvement Societies were self-education groups which served as a very important element in the rise of Labour politics in Britain throughout the Victorian and Edwardian periods. See chapter two of The Intellectual Life of the British Working Classes by Jonathan Rose.
