Bandits and Outlaws[edit]

It is not correct to call people "bandits and outlaws" who fought for there live and there freedom against the bolsheviki. Also that he fought on the "revolutionary side" which implies that all who where no bolsheviki were against the revolution. Look at the recent addition by 68.159.176.191. I don't know for now, but when you posted your suggestion, I looked to the Russian page. Even image there was very biased, not speaking about the article itself. Solzhenitsyn is not the "last instance" for all questions. Cmapm 23:38, 24 May 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Vodka, Vodka, mat' rodnaya![edit]

Recently found soviet medical documents show the guy became a chronic drunkard rather early. Vodka is a sad fate hitting so many russian people and this is the reason for his rapid decline in later works' quality, not plagiarism!

There is a new film version of "And quiet flows the Don", by Sergei Bondarchuk, which started being shown on Channel One in Russia on November 7 2006. It has a number of well-know Western actors in it, including Rupert Everett.

Veshenskaya[edit]

Sholokhov was born in the Kruzhilin khutor, which was part of the Cossack stanitsa Vyeshenskaya (Vyoshenskaya) and resided in the stanitsa for much of his life. It now hosts the Sholokhov museum. Silent Don Manuscript[edit]

I would prefer that Sholokhov's work be his own. However, Mr. Hansen, I think the article you pointed to doesn't say the 1st volume's manuscript was found, only that the "manuscript" was found with Ms. Kudashova. It has been known for a while that the 4th volume's manuscript was found with her. Also, Fomenko claims that Volume 4 and half of volume 3 are really by Sholokhov. So volume 4's discovery alone isn't conclusive, unfortunately. Rakovsky (talk) 15:18, 12 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction[edit]

In And Quiet Flows the Don#Literary significance and criticism it is said that: A statistical analysis by V. P. and T. G. Fomenko also came to the conclusion that the book was plagiarized while in this article it is sayd that A 1984 monograph by Geir Kjetsaa and others demonstrated through statistical analyses that Sholokhov was indeed the likely author of Don.

Besides this, the article And Quiet Flows the Don clearly "condemns" the Sholokhov, while in Michail Aleksandrovich Sholokhov the POV is the opposite, equilibrium is needed. Epinheiro (talk) 13:00, 29 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

There's no contradiction here: just two studies that have come to opposite conclusions about the same issue. The article about the novel mentions both studies, along with other evidence for and against plagiarism. The article about the author mentions only the one statistical study but gives other evidence for and against plagiarism. I agree that more consistency of tone would be useful but I don't see any contradiction so I've removed the tags. Dricherby (talk) 11:46, 9 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Name[edit]

Authorship of texts[edit]

I noticed a few recent edits here. First of all, please remember that Anatoly Fomenko is not a reliable source on anything about History and humanities. Second, this is a controversial subject, and it was more or less fairly described in a separate article on ruwiki (ru:Проблема авторства текстов М. А. Шолохова); there are many publications, such as these [1], [2]). I think this should be sourced to books by historians of literature, rather than to Russian newspaper "Trud" or Fomenko. For example, there is a recent book by writer and historian of Russian literature Benedikt Sarnov, "Stalin and Writers" [3], one chapter was about Sholokhov... Yes, some other Russian language sources (Interview with Zeev Bar-Sella, his article, Notes of a dead man, reviews on publications by Bar-Sella [4], [5]) tell basically the same: the texts were written mostly not by Sholokhov. However, they do not support the version that Sholokhov was recruited by the GPU. My very best wishes (talk) 16:57, 4 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
Hasn't anyone reading this entry found it sophomoric and artificially sensational? Who spends several pages of text at the beginning of a bio entry disputing the authenticity of the writings of a winner of the Nobel Prize, for Pete's sake? He'd had to have plagiarized another Nobel laureate, and I don't hear any claiming to be that laureate! Haha. Relegate the material relating to the so-called "plagiarism controversy" to the end of the entry, just before Sholokove's death and legacy are described, or delete it entirely, which is the better alternative. Why? Because good writers know by 10th grade that not everything associated with a particular topic is of such relevance to that topic that it must be included in an article or essay. Writers subconsciously stratify material from the most tangential and irrelevant to the indispensable and central and leave the former out.
