Year of birth?[edit]

When I started this article, here, in January 2012 I used McFarlane and Culnane, who both had 1948. There are problems with this year and upon closer examination I found that another source, Howe, indicates a 60th birthday commemoration had occurred the day before the article. Unfortunately the article is not dated, I made the mistake of dating it to 2008.

I returned to this article earlier in December 2020 and changed the birth year to 1945 based on my assumption that Howe's article was written in 2005. His article introduces Howe and "His hard-hitting column – making its debut today – will appear in the Herald Sun every Thursday." I took this to mean the article was published on Thursday 29 September 2005.

JJULE edited the article a few days later and returned 1948 supported by a reference to Biographies.net, which has user-generated content according to its sign up page, "Become an Editor".

I've re-checked McFarlane's 2nd edition, p. 180, but it still has b. 1948. I re-checked archive copies of Culnane, he revised his 1999 article in 2007: both have born in 1948. Culnane's later version refers to "A recent Melbourne newspaper article commemorating Mike's 60th birthday reported that his family and friends (such as musician Bob Daisley) still believe that Mike was murdered, and refute claims that he killed himself." A link to Howe's article (referred to above) is provide in an archive copy of the site from January 2008. I then checked Howe's article itself and the earliest archive copy I could find was from December 2007.

Until a better source becomes available I've changed his birth year to 1947. This agrees with sources which say he died at age 25.

I'm also looking for further information about his National Service, I haven't yet found a good source for when he was conscripted and where he served.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 02:32, 13 December 2020 (UTC)02:36, 13 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Sue Langford (source now in the article) describes the National Service scheme and lists the dates for men who were selected each year.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 04:17, 14 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Pardon me if I'm mistaken (its JJULE) but it seems that 1951 UK census data will not become available until January 1, 2052? I know I say this like its no big deal, but I'm sure information will be readily available when it does come? Are there any more respectable sources? Why was Furber's birthdate so undocumented? Race To The Nether (talk) 00:16, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not sure. I was hoping a BDM search on his death would also provide his birthdate. This should be available for people who died before 1990.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:12, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
His death was registered in 1974 (possibly delayed due to the police investigations into the circumstances) see here. This confirms his parents' names, and gives his middle name. I don't know why he's listed twice. I don't want to pay for the full certificate.shaidar cuebiyar (talk) 01:24, 15 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
