R=Radical

What does the R mean in this image? I can't find the R symbol in the table showing the periodicity of the elements. Could it stand for Arginine? Jecowa (talk) 08:03, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

This isn't normally true. "Methyl" is most commonly used to refer to CH3 groups that are part of larger molecules. - Alltat (talk) 16:15, 7 February 2013 (UTC)
