Inbreeding[edit]

"caused by their long history of inbreeding" is a bit speculative.

I moved the paragraph here from the article on Franz Joseph I. Retrospectively, it was probably better to simply delete it. I don't think it gives any useful information, and the implication that "dressing up in women's clothes" is a sign of "mental instability" may be offensive to some. Article Expansion[edit]

The article should be rearranged and clarified. The last sentence, that Empress Zita died before talking about the opinions of the royal family on the incident, is contradicted by the paragraph above that talks of a conspiration.

Also, there should be a description of what the official position was at the time, and what conseguences (if any) the scandal had.

References are also needed.

Vampire Hunter[edit]

I'm not sure the reference to the novel Vampire Hunter is pertinent, unless the novel alludes in some other way to the historical scandal.

Cleanup[edit]

Frankly, this article is in a terrible state. Partially due to the nature of the subject, I can find little reputable or verifiable information about this event. The Wikipedia articles for the Baroness and Rudolf give conflicting information and the external links are also contradictory. I've tried to fix some of the more glaring inaccuracies and take out some of the frankly sensationalistic tone, but it still needs work, so I'm placing this on the Cleanup Taskforce page. Split[edit]

I am User:Hunterd, of the Cleanup Taskforce. I hereby propose the immediate split of this article; everything that falls under the "The Mayerling Incident" heading should be moved to another article, entitled: "The Mayerling Incident". The article for Mayerling itself is no place for such an event to be discussed in so much detail. While it would render the article on Mayerling a stub, I'm certain that if we all chip in and look for sources we can find out about it. Cast your votes below. Your one true god is David P. A. • Qualified Support : How about a simple renaming of the article? I'm not sure that the hunting lodge is particulary notable except for this incident? --Kerowyn 16:46, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Okay, now that I look at Google. There probably is enough info to justify a seperate article. Kerowyn 17:06, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
So do we have consensus yet? Your one true god is David P. A. Hunter, esq. III Talk to me! 00:04, 28 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Probably. Since we seem to be the only two people looking at the talk page, I would call it unanimous. I left a note on Jtmichcock's talk page, but s/he might not be around regularly. --Kerowyn Leave a note 08:11, 30 July 2006 (UTC) (p.s. Thanks for the help with my sig. It was the embedded Esperanza link that was causing all the trouble.)[reply]
OK I'm going to do the split within 30 hours time. Unfortunately I haven't the time at present, and I have classes all of tomorrow. Your one true god is David P. A. Hunter, esq. III Talk to me! 06:58, 3 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
The deed hath been done. Let us now expand both articles, at all costs! Your one true god is David P. A. Hunter, esq. III Talk to me! 14:00, 4 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
