Notability[edit]

This article was recently tagged as possibly not meeting notability criteria.

The main WP:Notability guideline seems to be in flux at the moment but the Wikipedia:Notability (people) criteria guideline seems to not be in the same dispute.

What is listed there as primary criteria is this:

"A person is notable if he or she has been the subject of secondary sources that are reliable, intellectually independent, and independent of the subject. The depth of coverage of the subject by the source must be considered. If the depth of coverage is not substantial, then multiple independent sources should be cited to establish notability. Trivial, or incidental coverage of a subject by secondary sources is not sufficient to establish notability."

This article clearly meets that threshhold. See here and other sources cited in the references and "further reading" section. This person's death was a widely publicized event and had political consequences in two countries.

A center was named after this individual, see here.

I've removed the tag about possibly not meeting notability based on what I've found in looking into the topic. Any other views are welcome. Thank you. Beyazid 01:03, 22 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]
