A fact from Mattheus Le Maistre appeared on Wikipedia's Main Page in the Did you know column on 14 February 2015 (check views). The text of the entry was as follows:
Did you know... that Kapellmeister Mattheus Le Maistre's request for retirement was denied, yet he was granted a stipend?
Nowhere does the text inform the reader that "Le Maistre" simply signifies "the Master", that is "Matthew the Music Master", a sobriquet, not a surname-- as is confusingly suggested by calling him Le Maistre throughout instead of Mattheus. The briefly noted alternative sobriquet, Nidlender (pronounced as Niedländer), identified him as "the Lowlander". These points might help the reader and perhaps the editor.--Wetman (talk) 02:55, 14 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]
@Wetman:, Do you have a source that states that "Le Maistre" is merely a sobriquet? Kade mentions this as a possibility, but then concludes it is his surname. I chose not to include this information as Kade got several other things wrong. The other superior sources do not address this issue, but do refer to him as "Le Maistre" which indicates surname.
