Deletion?[edit]

Why would anyone want to delete this page? I found it midly interesting, as a link from the "Internet Phenomenon" page. Leave it as it is, stop being so delete-happy.

Please don't delete it. I wanted to check information about Matt's jumping, in this case, I was interested when did he do his first jumping video? This page doesn't give the answer! This is not good! Scooter (German band) has a CD Jumping around the World, which does seem to resemble Matt's idea bit. I wondered which was earlier? 78.131.24.250 (talk) 18:18, 4 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Matt doesn't hate Canada. That was a joke. Click the link, and you'll see that many a time he's told Canadians he likes Canada, and wants to go there, but it's not on the way to anywhere else.

Now that the article has been rewritten, I'm OK with it.

It's not the way the text is written - it's the fact that there are six billion people living on Earth, and Wikipedia's mission statement is not to do a biography on all of them. This one, in particular, does not seem noteworthy.

Quotes[edit]

They are also "poorly sourced" for sure, which violates official policy on Wikipedia:Biographies_of_living_persons, so I removed them. None of them come up on Google. --Epukinsk 23:31, 4 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

They can all be found on his blog @ wherethehellismat.com. I looked them up and found them all to be accurate, and at least somewhat relevant. The main idea of his blog seems to be to convince the reader that he is "not the guy in the video", meaning that he has many flaws and does not come near the perfect image shown in his dancing videos.

Notability[edit]

So does every living human belong on Wikipedia, or only those from Connecticut? Is it the fact that the man has travelled that makes this individual worthy of an encyclopedia article and bio, with poorly written quotes? What makes this man "worthy of an encyclopedia article" is the claim that "his video ranks as one of the most downloaded (and watched) in internet history." What would do better at establishing that this man is worthy of an encyclopedia article would be if we had a source for the claim that his video is one of the most downloaded in internet history. If you take a look at the previous deletion discussions, you'll see that this is a borderline case, a lot of people don't think he is "worthy of an encyclopedia article", but enough do and have a strong enough claim to override them - barely. However, the fact that those fans have not backed up their claims with reliable sources is an indication that they may be wrong. If you really feel strongly about it, then take it for a 4th AFD by putting {{afd}} at the top and then following the directions that appear. Agreed futurebird. Of course there should be a page about this person. To say otherwise is an argument from personal incredulity. Just because you struggle to believe that dancing in a video your friend made could make you notable enough to merit an encyclopedia article, this does not mean that this is not the case for Matt Harding. Worthiness[edit]

What makes it worthy of inclusion is the fact that a man traveled the world to create beautiful art, art that influenced the creation of further beautiful art. Is it worthy of inclusion? I submit that it is more worthy than the inclusion of (for example) Stevens T. Mason. While there is no question as "Boy Governor" of Michigan that Mason was important to some of the people of his time and place. His relevance to the modern world is almost non-existant. On the other hand, Matt Harding has touched thousands or millions of people. While he received news coverage and ample coverage in blogs and other media, it is probably unlikely his memory will last beyond this turbulent age. The tide of information is rising like a storm and much that is unquestionably notable will probably vanish without a trace as well.

Updating YouTube numbers[edit]

Please do not remove proper citations to reliable sources (as Matt San did here) and replace them with original research, i.e. the latest numbers on YouTube, simply to provide "the latest numbers". This degrades the verifiability of articles and may cause them to be nominated for deletion. Also, try to space out citations so that they don't all support the lead sentence and have a bunch of other unsupported sentences elsewhere -- it just looks sloppy. --Dhartung | Talk 22:42, 30 December 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Flags[edit]
