What does the name mean?[edit]

"mataró" is Spanish for "he/she/it killed" and even in Catalan "matar" is "to kill". --2.245.182.20 (talk) 18:56, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

  • I wouldn't read anything into that. According to http://enciclopedia.cat/EC-GEC-0041321.xml it got its name from the district of Mata near the town, where there was a castle. "Mata" is also Catalan for a bush/shrub, which could be the ultimate origin. Interestingly, the Marató (marathon in Catalan) of the 1992 Olympics started at Mataró. — Rwxrwxrwx (talk) 23:08, 14 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
