I noticed that Maria Theresa's end date as HRE Empress is October 1765, with her husband's death. However, didn't she co-rule with her son, Joseph, during this time, and therefore she reigned in the HRE until 1780, when she died and Joseph became sole HRE ruler? I believe that she was, as a formality, only HRE empress because her husband was emperor, and not in her own right - it wasn’t hereditary and only a man could be elected. Strictly she was just a consort. So when her husband died, her son was elected emperor and she was technically merely the emperor’s mother. The co-ruler status, whether with her husband or son, was of the Austrian/Habsburg dominions, which is distinct from the HRE - and that, of course, is where her political authority actually lay. So, technically the end date as HRE empress is 1765, but her actual political status continued because she was co-ruler of the Habsburg lands. DeCausa (talk) 21:48, 18 May 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Someone keeps changing the long standing image of the article as opposed to a state portrait. I will make sure to change it back to the long standing and more well known one in case this keeps happening. Whoever is doing this needs to stop. You cannot remove referenced information without proper cause WP:REMOVAL. None of which you are giving so far. The image you keep on inserting has less importance than the full state portrait that is in the center of Schönbrunn Palace and which has referenced information on its status WP:REFB. Gryffendor, the Meytens panting is the stable WP:EDITCONSENSUS supported pic that has been there for years. Since August you have been attempting to replace it with the new pic via, to date, 10 reverts. Each of your reverts has been reverted by 5 different editors restoring the Meytens painting -you’re not following WP:BRD and are edit-warring.
