Why would being set in the past matter? It is not a sequel, but is a spin-off, which simply means that the show has elements directly relating to the previous show. I think the whole mermaid and moon pool on Mako Island is a fairly strong tie. :) — Huntster (t @ c) 06:22, 28 July 2013 (UTC)[reply]

The name of the program[edit]

"Mako: Island of Secrets" is the Australian title for this program - while "Mako Mermaids" is the International title for the program. It is interesting that the Wikipedia page for the program is listed under the International title instead of under its Australian title. Does anyone know the reason for this? Move logs show that the article was moved from Mako: Island of Secrets to here on 9 May 2012 with the only explanation being that it was a "new title". On 8 August 2012 it was moved to Secret of Mako Island because "Production company changed series name". On 11 March 2013 it was moved back here because "the trailer shows its name was "Mako Mermaids"". This show is named wrong[edit]

Every time I change this page it get changed back. The show is not called Mako Mermaids: Island of Secrets. It's called Mako Mermaids: An H2O Adventure. Netflix - internet exclusive[edit]

Regarding the change I made to reference that the show is now available on Watchever. I felt it was worth noting because, in part, it means that Netflix no longer has exclusive Internet rights. Plus Watchever provides the show in both English and German, hence the relevance for here. Oppose. That is the international release title (well, that and just Mako Mermaids, it seems to vary). The original Australian title is Mako: Island of Secrets, as the article mentions. Labeling Season 2B?[edit]

How should this be done? Netflix's releases for May just came up, and the other 13 episodes of season 2 are listed as May 29th release... only they'll be released as Season 3.

So do we label them as Season 3, as Netflix, an official distributor labels them as such, and simply label them as production codes 214-226, or do we label them as season 2, with an addendum stating Netflix released them as a third season?

There have been a couple of IPs making recent edits to the article who are contending that there are four seasons to the series, as dictated by how Netflix has them numbered, and makes claim about the fact that it's a Netflix original means their numbering of seasons is the correct way. (Three edits by one user, read their edit summaries [2][3][4])(another IP's edit) The way the seasons (series) are numbered here has been decided for awhile, per what is above, but with these latest edits, it needs to be made crystal clear what has been decided. Spin-Off??[edit]

Briefly mentioned above (in 2013) (by someone else)… I’m not comfortable with it being called a “spin-off”.

The mermaids have a different origin; there’s no reference to the H₂O series; and all the characters are different (except a guest appearance in Season3). But it is set in the same “universe”, with similar plot, and created by the same people. And I can’t think of a better term than “spin-off”... so I guess it’s me that has to change.

How about “slide-off”?

The girls in the first show are human, and live as human until magically becoming mermaids at circa 16 yrs. The girls in the second were born as mermaids, and their pod has been in the sea forever; they first become “legged” at circa 16. (Their pod kicks them out very unfairly!)

I should have known there’d be a Wiki article Spin-off (media). But, I think, every example (except this show) has characters from the to-be-spun-off show appearing in the source show.

And, I think, every spun-off show references the source show – although I don’t recall Mork going back to, or talking about, Happy Days.
