Magpies[edit]

There was a magpie mascot, and a magpie song, but... why link magpies to a kids' TV programme? Dweller 18:33, 6 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

For comparison, see the following from Blue Peter:

Blue Peter is a popular, long-running BBC television programme for children. It is named after the blue-and-white flag hoisted by ships in port when they are ready to sail. The reasoning behind the choice of title is that the programme is intended to be a voyage of adventure and discovery for the viewers, constantly covering new topics.

Magpies are renowned for stealing shiny objects: the idea was that the programme would provide a varied selection of items for the viewers, from the latest pop sensations to Susan Stranks' nipples.Widmerpool 03:10, 20 February 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Actually the programme's creater later said that the title was an in-joke about the format being stolen from Blue Peter. 87.194.105.247 (talk) 12:03, 25 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Magpie logo.gif[edit]

Image:Magpie logo.gif is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to ensure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Charity Work Details?[edit]

Is there a source of information for the charity work that the show undertook? For example, a list of the money they raised each time, the materials/services that were bought, and the institutions that benefited from them? I know vague details of only one item: an amino sequence analyzer coupled to a Digico M15E computer, with software on punched paper tape, provided to the Metabolic Research Unit based at the former Nuffield Orthopedic Center in Headington, Oxfordshire, roughly around 1975-76 or so.
