Hoax[edit]

He's for real. Google Macuiltochtli, he turns up on a number of lists of Aztec gods, including English and Spanish Wikipedias. Tubezone 05:40, 6 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

So what, that doesn't make him real, not a single hit on .edu search via google makes me suspicious. There is no source on this article either and though references to him turn up on a general google search they could have all very easily used Wikipedia as there sole source. Until a solid reference is introduced proving that this god of alcohol thing is real I am tagging this as a hoax. A mcmurray 19:57, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It is true, all the rabbit gods are gods of pulque. But the article is not very good and the aztec deities of alcoholæ could be described with more sobriety, so to speak. but: I don't think "five rabbit" deserves his own article he is not noteworthy - the main pulque god was ometochtli "two rabbit". We should probably just make one page on the Centzon Totochtin "400 Rabbits" or we will have 400 different pages with this same content. In "The Gods and symbols of Ancient Mexico and the Maya" by Karl Taube and Mary Miller it is written under the entry "ahuiateteo": "A series of five gods embodied the dangers and punishments of excessive drinking gambling, sex and other pleasures. Each of these gods bore a calendrical name with the coefficient of 5 macuil, a number alluding to excess. Thus acordding to the aztecs the fifth cup of pulque denoted drunkenness and loss of control. The five gods were named Macuilcuetzpalin, (5 lizard) Macuilcozcacuahtli (5 vulture), macuiltochtli (5 rabbit) macuilxochitl (5 flower) and macuilmalinalli (5 grass)" Maunus 23:28, 8 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]

IMHO, at least 2 Rabbit and 5 Rabbit deserve articles, as they had attributes other than being party rabbits, but it appears the other 398 rabbits were just at the parties for pulque and female rabbits, thus not individually notable. Besides, their names are just Nahuatl numbers followed by tochtli, rabbit. Thanks for weighing in on this subject. Tubezone 00:22, 9 November 2006 (UTC)[reply]
