Disambiguation[edit]

I have reverted a move of this article.

As the film was never made, "cancelled" belongs as part of the article title. To use "Olivier film", as previously, risks misleading readers, as well as making it possible that unwary users or bots will add categories as though the film was completed. The article has been moved back to the supposedly simpler "Olivier film" since I made the above comments. The other editor (User:Fortdj33), on the basis of WP:PRECISE. insists on the simpler form because there is no potential for confusion with a produced Olivier film of Macbeth. But the section he linked to lists examples of exceptions to this practice which can extended to cover this article title..
There is a precedent suggesting the earlier disambiguation is in line with established practice. The titles of articles about the many uncompleted film projects of Orson Welles generally specify that the film was "unfinished" in the title or disambiguation parenthesis. So a project, like Olivier's never shot Macbeth film, which , surely cannot be accurately described as a film. Philip Cross (talk) 18:28, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
And as I stated in my edit summary, there is no other Olivier film on Wikipedia titled Macbeth. Therefore, per WP:PRECISE and the naming conventions for films at WP:NCF, the disambiguation "cancelled" is unnecessary for the title of the article. Fortdj33 (talk) 18:32, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
You have ignored my points. Put bluntly, as "Macbeth (Olivier film)" does not exist, the form now used is not an accurate article title. Philip Cross (talk) 18:38, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I understand your point, but you apparently do not understand how disambiguation works. The only reason to include "cancelled" in the title, would be to disambiguate this article from some other Olivier film titled Macbeth. Since no such article exists, the disambiguation should be "precise enough to unambiguously define the topical scope of the article, but no more precise than that". MacBeth is too ambiguous, and there is more than one film article with that title, so Macbeth (film) wont work. The next step would be to add the year of the film, but since this one "did not become even a partially completed work", Macbeth (Olivier film) is sufficient to disambiguate it from any other articles on Wikipedia. No further disambiguation is necessary for the article, regardless of the actual status of the film. Fortdj33 (talk) 19:55, 20 December 2014 (UTC)[reply]
