This may or may not be true, but is in need of rewording and correct placement in the article:

"this media also allows growth of staphylococcus aureus which a gram positive lactose fermenting bacteria but in this we then don't add crystal violet". —Preceding unsigned comment added by 69.107.2.1 (talkcontribs)

That information is incorrect. Bile salts are capable of completely inhibiting all growth of S. aureus and merely removing the crystal violet would not allow the organism to grow. MacConkey agar is specifically a selective medium for that reason; it doesn't allow any Gram-positive bacteria to grow. Areyoucontagious 20:42, 5 April 2007 (UTC)[reply]

the fermentation of glucose in this media produces acid causing the pH drop and pink colonies NOT the lactose fermentaion which cause gasious byproducts, some one should change! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 156.56.223.8 (talk) 17:20, 11 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The article attributes inhibition of swarming in Proteus spp to NaCl and bile salts in different sections. My understanding is that swarming is inhibited by increased concentrations of agar. I'll make this edit if I can find a good source. Joaquin999 (talk) 21:37, 5 August 2016 (UTC)joaquin999[reply]
