Caps

Chris Ward prefers not to capitalize his rapper alias - i.e.: mc chris not MC Chris. I cite the line from his song Ten Year Old: "All my fan mail says someday that I'll get signed / mc chris, lowercase, no dots, rewind!", and also his website. Also, mcchris is seen on his website, but just as much as mc chris. -LockeShocke 22:32, Jun 27, 2004 (UTC)

On that note, it seems that he doesn't like capitalizing much of anything. All of the album names and track titles listed on his site are lowercase. Should that be considered the official way to spell them? If so then that should be also be the way they are spelled in the article. Does anyone have a CD so that they can verify how it is worded there? --Kamasutra 16:03, Jun 17, 2005 (UTC)
My problem when I got a few of his CDs is that in the CD inserts and cases themselves a good many of the song titles are spelled and capitalized differently. Search4Lancer 00:05, 17 March 2006 (UTC)

PICTURE

I was directed here from a link elsewhere on Wikipedia and was surprised at the choice of picture ofr this article. I find it very ofensive, and I suggest that it be changed or removed imediately. 75.181.55.48 (talk) 19:32, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

If you have a photo which you took that you're willing to contribute under a suitable license, or know of another photo that fits the bill, please do so (see Wikipedia's Copyright Policies first, though). Additionally, please note that Wikipedia is not censored. Thanks! -Kgasso (talk) 06:05, 23 November 2008 (UTC)

I too found it very offensive. Somebody should change it or take it off. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.201.156.247 (talk) 16:54, 26 February 2009 (UTC)

Explicit Lyrics

I removed the bit about his albums being labeled as having explicit lyrics because, frankly, that's not true. He isn't signed to a record label, so he has no obligation to print the explicit lyrics warning on his CDs, so he doesn't. Shralla 07:19, 10 February 2007 (UTC)

His ridiculously high voice

There's no mention of his voice at all in this article.

  • Does anybody know if that's his normal talking voice? It seems like he probably has to work at it, but I've never heard any other voice. —TheMuuj Talk 19:55, 26 May 2006 (UTC)
  • Yeah, that's his normal talking voice. He said so in his One Trick Pony interview in Sep. 2005. -The Hams 01:40, 10 June 2006 (UTC)
    • As far as I've known, it is not his normal voice. I've heard him say that it is not, and I've also heard him talk in his normal voice. Search4Lancer 02:41, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
      • I guess you're right, Lancer. When asked "how did you arrive at your particular vocal style", he said "Just by speaking. There's no style that I sought out to create. It's just what I sound like and I'm unapologetic for it." I think I misinterpreted that as saying that that's his real voice. Whoops. You are a genius, for I am not. You are the reason I am the scum of the Earth. I shame. -The Hams 18:16, 12 June 2006 (UTC)
        • I could see how that statement could go either way. Search4Lancer 15:16, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

I saw him perform at The Roxy in Hollywood on 10/6 and that's his real speaking voice - no effects are used. As verification, I also stayed after the show and got to talk to him. --209.77.246.75 20:17, 8 October 2006 (UTC)

  • Right, we're not claiming that any effects are used. We know he can really talk like that. The issue at hand is that it's not his normal, everyday voice. As in, when he calls his momma on the phone, he wouldn't be using that voice. Search4Lancer 22:14, 2 February 2007 (UTC)

Oddly enough, if you decrease the pitch by -4.20 semitones, he sounds like a normal person. Deadfones 22:31, 13 August 2007 (UTC)

I'm new to Wiki, but I can confirm that it's not his real voice. I did a show with him and talked with him several hours before and after the event. It is, however, not much different from his real voice. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.32.82.136 (talk) 13:53, 23 January 2008 (UTC)

freestyle raps

Summer 2005 mc chris opened for Mindless Self Indulgence in NYC and repeats after the show that he isn't a real rapper because he cannot freestyle. So maybe he can now. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 207.255.94.55 (talkcontribs) 08:18, 9 April 2006 (UTC)

Article title should be "mc chris", not "Chris Ward (rapper)"

How does someone change the actual title of the article? It's unusual to me that he would be classified by his given name, since not many people would think to search for him in that manner. "mc chris" would be more well-known than "Chris Ward", I would think. -DestradoZero

Nah. "mc chris" redirects to this article so people will find this article with no problem. --ElKevbo 19:47, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
I understand that it redirects, but listing him primarily as "Chris Ward (rapper)" would be akin to listing Madonna under her given name and linking "Madonna" to this. It works, but it isn't optimal. --DestradoZero 15:16, 5/17/2006 (CST)
Hmmm...a quick glance at some other articles (Sting, Madonna, and Prince) seems to confirm that you're right that there is a precedence (that we're not following in this article). I don't have a firm opinion one way or the other but would prefer to follow the (seemingly) established precedence. I'd suggest letting this discussion sit for a few days to see if anyone else has any comments, objections, or suggestions. --ElKevbo 20:33, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

Swapped the pages around, however, Wikipedia seems to be insisting on Mc chris, rather than mc chris, any ideas? Dwayne Kirkwood 22:14, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
That's a technical limitation with the wiki code. You'll just have to put a notice at the top of the article like they on some others like iPod. --ElKevbo 22:19, 17 May 2006 (UTC)
That's silly of me to tell you how to do it when it's just as easy for both of us if I go ahead and do it. :) --ElKevbo 22:22, 17 May 2006 (UTC)

I've moved it, but my edit summary got truncated. What I meant it to say was that point 2 of Wikipedia:WikiProject Music#Albums, bands, and songs advises against reflexive disambiguation. I'm not sure whether mc chris is a band, though. Tim Ivorson 2006-05-18

That's a good question and I think a good argument could be made for both sides. In the absence of a strong, convincing opinion, I think we should leave it as it is currently. --ElKevbo 20:52, 18 May 2006 (UTC)
"mc chris" is the pseudonym Chris Ward uses for his work in music and television (though he is credited on some shows as Chris Ward), and not the name of a band. I apologize for not doing this a week ago, but personal issues kept me from doing much with Wikipedia in the last few days. --DestradoZero 19:13, 24 May 2006 (UTC)
Of course, mc chris is only one person, but what I meant to ask was whether the naming convention for bands extends to solo recording artists. Tim Ivorson 2006-05-25
Yes, generally speaking. In this case, if he's notable for non-musical reasons as well, there might be good cause to make an exception though, but not because he's only one person. Tuf-Kat 22:13, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
I hadn't thought about that. He is well-known among adult swim fans for his work on the Williams Street shows, primarily Aqua Teen Hunger Force and Sealab 2021. Although he *is* gaining popularity through his music, I'm almost certain that he is still more well-known for his other works. DestradoZero 15:09, 26 May 2006 (UTC)

This may sound odd

in several of his songs hes made references to "...inseminating socks" (ten year old) and "...bust a nugget in a tube sock" (white kids love hip-hop) i was wondering if references to filling socks with man gravy was in any other song and if so, should it be added to the Recurring Elements section? i got the lyrics from here http://www.sing365.com/music/lyric.nsf/MC-Chris-lyrics/C3B9370C7A007B4848256E8400088F0B Aidan is cool 02:15, 18 April 2007 (UTC)

Sample Lyrics section needs removed

The sample lyrics section should be removed. It is very unencyclopedic, as well as the only instance of such on any musical artist's article. All it is is a list of lines random people find amusing or "important" who then add it "just because they can." I'm just as big an mc chris fan as the next guy, and yes, I've been to an mc chris show, but this is completely unnecessary, and goes against the style of just about every other artist and band article I've seen. how tall is mc chris? he mentions being a "half pint" and makes references to how short he is but nothing seems to list his numerical height.

He's 5'5", he makes mention of this in the lyrics of one of his songs (I'll update when I find out which one it is.) Also, I'm 5'5" as well and in the pictures we've taken standing together, we're the same height.

Recurring Elements

I'm not so sure that phrases appearing in two songs really counts as a recurring theme. Is there a good reason for this section? Cwp2112 23:50, 14 July 2007 (UTC)

  • I don't see a good reason for it. If something occurred in a large number of songs than that may be ok but these are mostly 2-song "trends". I think the whole section can go. The trivia is starting to get out of hand as well. DrWarpMind 15:58, 29 July 2007 (UTC)

Fette's Vette

Just a thought, but it might be worth mentioning the internet phenomenon that 'Fette's Vette' became. It was a wildly popular video clip for quite some time, as well as one of his most popular songs. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 67.184.0.147 (talk) 07:02, 31 August 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps, on the subject of this song, it could be mentioned that it was featured on the "Zack and Miri Make a Porno" soundtrack, as well as in the movie itself. I dont have a specific reference, but something like that would easy to come by. Of course the proper linking from both movie pages and soundtrack pages could be done.--Slickrick668 (talk) 08:34, 29 January 2010 (UTC)

Fair use rationale for Image:Mc-chris-bulletin.png

Image:Mc-chris-bulletin.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

mc chris vs. Nerdcore

I deleted this part of the community involvement as it is not centered around mc chris himself but through a small tie he had made with a genre, and the article is biased in Nerdcore's favor. It's not him interacting with his fan base - it's him disassociating himself with another, and as he is locking himself away from the genre, it shouldn't be on his Wiki.

shaunizsleepin —Preceding comment was added at 20:46, 29 December 2007 (UTC)

mc chris has just made a request of his fans to remove the Nerdcore section of this article on his website's forums [1]. One recent edit of the article is also signed "i am mc chris and i removed the segment on nerdcore, its bigger than my bio and unnecessary. please leave nerdcore off my page" [2], but that edit was undone as vandalism. Given that the artist has requested the information not be included in his article, can we remove the section? 128.100.23.56 (talk) 21:09, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

No. This is an encyclopedia. Not mc chris' personal website. Subjects of wikipedia entries do not get to have factual information they do not like removed. If Bill Clinton posts and says he'd like all mention of monica Lewinsky removed from his entry removed, would that be appropriate?

That section on mc chris and nerdcore had citations from The New York Times, The Boston Globe and mc chris' own blog. How can something that made the new york times and the Boston globe not be newsworthy or noteworthy. To have an entry for mc chris that mentions the fact that he shared his wii code with his fans but doesn't mention that he once considered himself to be (or at least promoted himself as) nerdcore, is incomplete. You can not re-write history.

mc chris is free to write whatever he wants in his own personal bio. Wikipedia does not belong to him. People who come here deserve to have ALL relevant information about a topic, not just stuff that a subject of an entry thinks makes them look good. Fulfilling mc chris' request to have his nerdcore history erased goes against the whole point of wikipedia.

--Raymundo82 —Preceding undated comment was added at 04:29, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Actually, using this encyclopedia to grind your own personal axes "goes against the whole point of Wikipedia." Most people have no concern over sub-sub genres of music that involve unsigned independent musicians like mc chris. There is mention of "nerdcore" included in the article already.

Furthermore, the use of "recreations" of blogs is unreliable. Without full proof that the text is the work of the one and only mc chris, the sources are worthless.

Encyclopedias contain general information for a wide audience. In depth life stories are better suited for biographies. Let's not misunderstand what an enclopedia is; and let's not misunderstand the "point" of the Wikipedia. 72.205.250.123 (talk) 00:07, 5 June 2009 (UTC

Capitalization

Can we settle this capitalization battle once and for all? People, myself included just now, keep changing it and it has become wildly inconsistent on the page. It should either be "mc chris" (seems more correct to me from my knowledge) or "MC Chris" (traditional).

I'll follow either what Chris prefers or evidence establishes as correct.

To me evidence is established by the album covers, following through the upcoming one:

Vandalization of this article - Request of Lock

mc chris has recently posted a thread at his forums requesting people to stop adding the "nerdcore" segments to his page, which as Raymundo82 pointed out should be considered Vandalizing.

I vote we replace the deleted material and lock the article so that we don't have to keep coming in here and re-adding things that mc chris "simply doesn't like" about his Wiki-Page.

Proof of my claim rests here - http://67.18.79.2/board/index.php?topic=3600.0

mc chris wrote: "if one of u keeps on updating my wiki page with nerdcore stuff please dont. i stand by my opinions, but id rather it was not there at all. id hate to think someone from my camp would go out of their way to keep this shit going, please just make like me and pretend there's no such thing. thx."

We don't do votes on Wikipedia. It's not a democracy here. The information does not belong on there, it is poorly sourced and not highly relevant to the article, and some of it is highly POV. SWATJester Son of the Defender 08:03, 28 August 2008 (UTC)
You misunderstand my usage of the word vote, as I meant "suggest" that the topic be locked due to constant Vandalizing and the subjects request to continue doing so. If you feel the sourcing to be poorly done or POV, then update and fix the article or simply request that it is done so. Quotes were taken from the subjects own pages and publicly made comments, and relevance will be shown in an upcoming 60 Minutes newscast as well as the references already posted. These include the article from The Boston Globe. Please note, running around deleting content from Wikipedia without following the proper procedures can result in being flagged as a vandal no matter how good your intentions are. chozo_ninpo (talk) 01:20, 28 August 2008 (UTC)

Vandalism is defined by changing an article in ways that break with the policies Wikipedia has established to govern the site. Using unreliable sources is against the rules. Point of view problems aside, using poor sources is against the rules. A vandal is a person that adds or deletes text from the Wikipedia that violates the rules.

If you want to post blog comments from mcchris, you must have proof that the text is the work of the one and only mcchris. If you have a reliable source, cite it. Otherwise, it isn't good enough to post here. This is no everyday internet message board; this is an encyclopedia.

If you don't understand what a reliable source is, you should not be contributing. Learn the rules and follow them.

In the meantime, this article should remain concise and verifiable.

If you have a quote from mcchris that comes from a solid source, cite it. Alleged reposts of blogs are not reliable sources. I see no proof that these quotes are the work of the one and only mcchris.

Posting poorly sourced material is the definition of vandalism. Cleaning it up is following the rules. If you want to post poorly cited material, do it elsewhere. 72.205.250.123 (talk) 20:00, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Let me help you understand the rules: "This article must adhere to the policy on biographies of living persons. Controversial material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately, especially if potentially libellous. ..."

The Wikipedia has a policy here. They take the cautious route and declare that "...[c]ontroversial material about living persons that is unsourced or poorly sourced must be removed immediately..." right at the top of the page you are reading.

The rules are clear. Follow them. 72.205.250.123 (talk) 20:10, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

In deleting those blog sources though, you deleted two good sources (being the Boston Globe and the New York Times). Both of these are acceptable. You can't delete all of the material just because some of the sources are bad. It's hard enough to find articles about topics like this and here you are deleting them. Hewinsj (talk) 13:44, 1 June 2009 (UTC)
Actually, I can delete it. The entire section relied heavily on poor sources and could not stand alone. A citation from the New York Times or Boston Globe might be useful to prove the line that states mc chris is "...[s]ometimes associated with the genre of Nerdcore hip-hop...". Outside of the fact that the press took a moment to interview mc chris about it, there really isn't much to add.
As stated previously, the Wikipedia chooses to err on the side of caution with biographical entries. Saying that mc chris is sometimes associated with the genre leaves his relationship with it ambiguous and unclear; and that turns out to be an excellent representation of the reality--without the all the wordy details and shaky sources. 72.205.250.123 (talk) 00:27, 5 June 2009 (UTC)

Non-encyclopedic content and citations

This article needs to be cleaned up immediately. The Wikipedia is not a playground for angry people to fight and bicker.

This article needs to be as concise as possible. A lengthy description of mcchris's desire for association with the sub-sub genre "Nerdcore" is a footnote--at best. A single sentence could evaluate his feelings regarding that label. Anything more is (simply) unneccesary.

Blogs are extremely poor sources. If you wish to use a blog as a source, I demand you also post proof that mcchris wrote the blog entry in question. If you can't provide full proof of your source, don't use it. A recreation of a blog could easily be altered. Can anyone provide full proof that these blog posts are the work of the one and only mcchris?

Not only is the lengthy description of mcchris's feelings regarding the "Nerdcore" genre too wordy, it is also filled with poor undocumented sources. The entire content needs to be removed immediately.

Good articles should be as concise and verifiable as possible. 72.205.250.123 (talk) 22:45, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Job done. Keep it concise and verifiable. 72.205.250.123 (talk) 22:55, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

There were two citations in there that weren't bad. One from the NY Times and one for the Boston Globe. Maybe someone could still find a use for them? Hewinsj (talk) 16:11, 29 April 2009 (UTC)

I see the article has been VANDALIZED again. Once again with the same poor sources. This is an encyclopedia. There is a distinct difference between the terms "unauthorized biography" and "encyclopedia". Wikipedia is not a forum for you to promote your personal agenda. ONCE AGAIN, a lengthy description of mcchris's desire for association with the sub-sub genre "Nerdcore" is a footnote--at best.

Not only is there a large amount of text describing a footnote, the sources themselves are faulty. I still see absolutely no proof that the quotes are the work of the one and only mcchris.

What are we going to add next? mcchris's ever changing feeling regarding women he has dated? His changing list of favorite food items? None of these things qualify as Wikipedia content. This site is not a place to grind your personal axes.

Full details of mcchris's feelings regarding an obscure sub-sub genre isn't encyclopedic content. Additionally, the sources are poor and unreliable.

mcchris is sometimes associated with "Nerdcore". That is already stated in the article. It also listed in the bio summary box on the right--along with other labels assigned to his work.

Keep is concise and verifiable. If you aren't a good writer with great sources, don't edit the articles. This is an encyclopedia; not a message board. If you want to argue about obscure details without proof, this is NOT the place to do it. 72.205.250.123 (talk) 19:49, 29 May 2009 (UTC)

Since this issue has been standing for quite some time, I've shortened the section significantly. I believe most of the original content is still there and that it helps to deal with the neutrality issue with the article. -ERTW (talk) 19:36, 4 January 2010 (UTC)

Super Mario Rap

There is a song going around on Limewire called "Super Mario Rap" and is Credited to MC chris, but I can't find it anywhere in his discography. Does any one know if he made it? The Most Angry Pissed off Gaming Nerd 13:28, 9 May 2009 (UTC)

Talk pages aren't generally a place for Q&A discussion. How is this pertinent to the article? DP76764 (Talk) 17:29, 9 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, Cause I'm curious if It is related to MC chris, for the article. --The Most Angry Pissed off Gaming Nerd 00:25, 13 May 2009 (UTC)
Well, if you can't find anything officially sourced, it's doubtful to be worthy of inclusion. Anyway, last.fm calls this song a "mistag of Warp to World 6-9 by Benefit." [3] Google is your friend. DP76764 (Talk) 00:38, 13 May 2009 (UTC)

Involvement with Cystic Fibrosis

I believe that there should be a section of this article describing mc's involvement with the St. Paul Minnesota Chapter of the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation considering he dedicates time during each performance and each interview he gives to the cause. Not only all of that; he hosts ebay sales of his own personal items for fans to buy up where the profits go directly to the foundation. It's a huge part of his life and his act. The mc chris Show?

Last night at his show in Ann Arbor at The Blind Pig he announced he'll be pitching "The mc chris Show" to Williamstreet and played the theme song as well as a short clip of his concept episode. He hasn't put anything online that I can see but if you look at MC Lars' Facebook page he mentions that mc chris showed his secret project, its referring to what he showed.

He said he'll be pitching it later this month, but not to get worked up in case it gets shut down. 76.247.152.25 (talk) 03:11, 9 November 2010 (UTC)

Removed section on "Upcoming Album?"

Removed the following section from the article

mc chris recently posted a series of status updates on his facebook account:
July 20 at 3:02pm: "recording a song!"
July 20 at 11:52pm: "Had to do it. http://mcchris.com/mp3/iheartdrugs.mp3"
July 22 at 7:45pm: "creativity is the solution when you don't know what to do. so yeah i drew a picture which is on my twitter and i wrote the first race wars song. BLAO! art is a godsend. it's really the thing that's always been there."
Given this, it is likely he is working on a new album titled Race Wars, based on the race wars skit from his album mc chris goes to hell.
mc chris now has an ad for the up and coming Race Wars album that shows up when you first arrive on his website.

I have no objection to this material being included if it was rewritten into suitable prose for an encyclopedia entry, (and perhaps better sourced.) It could also probably go into the article for that album once it's appropriate to do so. As it stands, the redlink mention of the album on mc chris's page is probably sufficient -- RoninBK T C 23:43, 26 August 2010 (UTC)

hesh?

No mention of playing the character Hesh on Sealab 2021? He must have appeared in at least a dozen episodes, any reason why this is not included before I add it? 96.228.129.185 (talk) 08:27, 7 November 2010 (UTC)

Song on Honda Commercial

I would say that having your song lyrics sung on a Honda commercial ("I'm a Hoodie Ninja") is Wiki entry worthy.giggle 13:04, 8 June 2011 (UTC) — Preceding unsigned comment added by Gregory.george.lewis (talkcontribs)

The capitalization issue

I know this has been the subject of debate in the past but true consensus was never reached. The article title was just changed and left that way. I know mc chris is used on the albums but ultimately, that's a matter of style and not proper usage for Wikipedia. So I researched and found some info that pertains to Wikipedia's guidelines on the matter. According to Mixed or non-capitalization it's still somewhat debatable. Typically, it sounds like MC Chris SHOULD be the proper usage for Wikipedia. There are exceptions though, if there is "regular and established use in reliable third-party sources." Considering that the only true source given for mc chris is from the artist himself, and NOT from third party sources, I believe that the name needs to be reverted to MC Chris here on Wikipedia. Just to clarify, I am a fan and have no issue with how he refers to himself or the spelling of his name. My opinion strictly refers to the usage on Wikipedia. Any input? NJZombie (talk) 23:35, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

The style guide shouldn't matter, that's how he spells his name, with all lowercase letters. It's not only written that way on the albums but he also states it in lyrics of at least 2 songs. It's mc chris, lowercase, no dots. --Zaiger (talk) 22:50, 19 July 2012 (UTC)
Hi there
The Wikipedia style guide defines how Wikipedia uses punctuation. Capitalization is this instance is part of punctuation as it indicates abbreviation (for instance, distinguishing McDonald's from a rapper called MC Donald's). In these cases, Wikipedia acknowledges an individuals personal spelling in brackets subsequent to an article title using correct grammar.

Albums

Hey guys, I'm going to merge mc's album articles into a new article: MC chris discography. I couldn't find sources to justify independent notability for any of the albums, so rather than delete them I figure we can consolidate the information onto a single page. I'm keeping the track listings, per this discussion, but not the images, per WP:NFLISTS. Hopefully I don't screw this up too badly - let me know if you have any concerns, and feel free to recreate any of the album articles if you can find sources. --Cerebellum (talk) 19:44, 1 August 2015 (UTC)
