This entire article is already tagged and marked at the beginning as not citing it's sources. There is no need to go through and mark 1000 places, it only makes the article look bad. Hundreds of other articles are the same way on Wikipedia, why are some people insistant on degrading the entire page with "citations needed" everywhere? The place for that is on top of the article or at the top of the section. I disagree. The tag at the top of the article is to signal that it needs citations, the tags within the article are to identify what content needs citations. The reason this article "looks bad" is because so much of it is not sourced, and a lot of is questionable. Closenplay 10:38, 8 April 2007 (UTC)

Discography

I notice the extensive Singles Discography. However, I do not see an Album Discography. As a wikipedian, I was attempting to find out which are his most important compilation albums. I personally own The Best of Luther Vandross...The Best of Love. However, this is a 1989 Compilation Album. I own 2 other Albums Power of Love (Vandross Album) and Songs (Vandross album). I am trying to determine if either of these is a compilation or what a good later compilation album would be to include in my iPod. An album discography would be quite helpful. Luther Vandross Searching Dance Mix from 1992

I know there was a very nice piano house track from 1992 and Luther Vandross vocals from Searching were used on it (the entire vocals). I have not been able to find who was responsible for this track, it is very possibly a bootleg and was this vocals may have been illegally copied. But it is a very good track. It would be a shame if it was not discovered and added to the Luther Vandross information page on Wikipedia.

Age at death

In the infobox it says he died age 54, but in the article it says he died 4 days before his 52nd birthday. Which is correct? Mouseinthehouse (talk) 18:21, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

He suffered a stroke four days before his 52nd birthday, as stated. He'd died just over two years later. AuntFlo (talk) 11:46, 12 June 2008 (UTC)

Cause of death

This article is in the "cause of death disputed" category, but the article pretty clearly states he died of a stroke, with no mention of any disputes. Are there legitimate questions as to his cause of death, or should it be removed from that category? norm77 (talk) 17:03, 28 July 2008 (UTC)

Vandross was not a Baritone, but a Tenor.

Luther Vandross' vocal range/type was Tenor, not Baritone. As the "Baritone" article states here on Wiki, the Greek definition of "Baritone" is "deep (or heavy) sounding." Vandross' voice was neither of those qualities. His voice was high and light-sounding and he stuck to the highest registers on the majority of his recorded work. Any lower notes are simply part of his extension, meaning that they are notes that he could hit outside of his true range. Every vocalist and every musical instrument has extensions.

Furthermore, the cited source for this tidbit of information, including the note span of his range, is a blog; hardly reliable or verifiable.

I have several reliable and verifiable sources which state that Vandross was indeed a Tenor:

Sound of name

I am hearing many American DJs pronounce his last name like "van-droze", as if it is rhyming with hoze. Is this correct saying? 217.38.191.254 (talk) 14:50, 7 February 2016 (UTC)

Luther's sexuality

I provided a source where Patti LaBelle posthumously outed Luther and she said that he was in fact gay, but Gareth Griffith-Jones reverted my edits and mistakenly accused me of vandalism. Always feel these posthumous outings are a little distasteful, not least because (not by any means necessarily in this particular case) the possibility always exists that the person making the claim about someone else has got the wrong end of the stick or jumped to erroneous conclusions, and then it's forever cemented as "fact" that the deceased was gay. It's hardly the end of the world, perhaps, but if it's not 100% factual, it sits uncomfortably with me at least. It just seems where a person didn't either say so themselves, or didn't deny/ correct statements about their sexuality in their own lifetime, the final conclusion in a lot of Wikipedia articles ought to be worded perhaps less definitively. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 78.144.72.204 (talk) 15:29, 18 July 2020 (UTC)
