It seems likely that the material was published externally first, although internet archives do not definitively establish this, unfortunately. But I note that spelling errors present at the introduction of the material here are also present in the external site, though later fixed here, as is formatting snafus such as " 6 each". I've restored the stub prior to the introduction of this material. It should not be restored unless it can be verified that the material is not infringement. --Moonriddengirl (talk) 01:20, 25 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Most of the information on the Lower Heyford Parish Council website was published 50 years ago in the Victoria County Histories. I've used the parish council website as a source of just three facts that I failed to find elsewhere. Most sources, including the parish council website, erroneously cite 1790 as the date the Oxford Canal opened. This is true only of Worcester Street and New Road wharves in central Oxford, which were formally opened on New Year's Day 1790. Hugh Compton's The Oxford Canal states that the section between Banbury and Northbrook (just north of Tackley) opened in 1787 and the canal north of of Banbury had been completed much earlier. Heyford wharf almost certainly opened in 1787, in order to serve as the transhipment point for Bicester. Motacilla (talk) 16:50, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
