Long John's sponsor[edit]

In the 1960s Long John was sponsored by the Carnegie Deli in New York. He used to finish his live commercials with an invitation to visit the deli and say hello to three men (either the owners or manager or maitre' d) and tell them that Long John sent you. WOR and WNBC dates[edit]

I am suggesting that the dates mentioned for WOR and WNBC must be wrong. The Bain Biography says he started at WOR in 1956 not 1954. He must have gone to WNBC in 1963 not 1962. Personal recollections[edit]

I grew up across the street from where Long John Nebel lived in Murray Hill and would see his Smith Limo pick him up and bring him home.Later when he married Candy Jones I would see the two of them going back and forth to the show. Sadly I remember seeing him being helped from a wheelchair in his final days. We would see him carrying home groceries from time to time from the local A&P.
