Origin of the word[edit]

Untitled[edit]

As far as I know, "lithophyte" is not a classical Greek word. If I am not wrong, it was Thomas Browne who coined the neologism in his work Pseudodoxia Epidemica, imitating Aristotle's word zoophyte, which already appears in Historia Animalorum. I would appreciate it if anybody could confirm this information. Vasconicus (talk) 06:10, 18 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]
