Queen Emma in Washington, DC[edit]

Queen Emma of Hawaii was received at an evening reception at the White House on August 14, 1866. On August 16, 1866, she was given a "state dinner" at William H. Seward House with Seward, Johnson and the cabinet in attendance. Does this count as preceding Kalakaua's 1874 state dinner? Only caveat is that the dinner itself never took place in the White House, and Queen Emma was not a reigning monarch or an incumbent consort at the time of the visit. Edward VII when he was Prince of Wales visited the White House in 1860 under James Buchanan and also had what was described as a state dinner. KAVEBEAR (talk) 00:05, 26 December 2020 (UTC)[reply]
