Etymologies[edit]

Stars with proper names:
  • (α Her) Ras Algethi [Rasalgethi, Rasalegti] (64/α1 Her) + 64/α2 Her – double 2.78, 5.39
رأس الجاثي ra's al-jaθiyy Head of the kneeler
  • (7/κ Her) 5.0 Marfik [Marfak, Mirfak, Marsik] (or Maasim, see λ Her)
    < مرفق marfaq, mirfaq elbow
  • (76/λ Her) 4.41 Maasym [Masym, Misam]
    < معصم macşam wrist

Yeah, all those are also in my star name list collected from various sources! Star without a proper name:

That "name" is a hoax, see Google search on '"Gamma Herculis" biceps -Wikipedia'. The name originates from one Wikipedia editor. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 19:51, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Other dubious names: π "Fudail", μ "Melqart, Melkarth", η "Sophian, Sofian", ξ "Beraka, Baraka", ο "Atia, Atiya", 109 "Ghusen, Cladus", θ & τ "Rukbalgethi", a few of them could be fetched from Al-Sufi Maps. Besides from the obvious hoax of "biceps", a modern medical term of no real language alleged to be a traditional star name, Rukbalgethi Asshemali/Algenubi actually means something, which doesn't mean it really was used, except on a few Arabic star maps. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 20:01, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Fake names added by disruptive vandal 168.223.11.220 in 15 January 2007. Funny shit! I'll remove it. Rursus dixit. (mbork3!) 20:09, 3 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
