William Hammond dates[edit]

This William Hammond is known to be somewhat difficult to identify, though in fact the solution seems to have been given two centuries ago. What appears to be the problem is confusion between William Hammond (poet), born 1614, and his nephew William Hammond (died 1685). See s:Hammond, William (DNB00) for the former. It seems to be accepted that he died c.1655, which means it is very unlikely he was still an FRS in 1681, which is a data point.

In summary, some doubts raised in a paper by Michael Hunter referenced in William Hammond (died 1685) about the two William Hammonds seem easy enough to resolve, Charles Matthews (talk) 12:28, 13 April 2016 (UTC)[reply]
