Yes, in this case someone could add the original price in the car's country. I wrote "Pininfarina B0 25000 euro in 2009" because in the article I read about a car that is not available now, but maybe this shouldn't be added and also the car in the article should be deleted, because the article is about available cars. Available?[edit]

Agree it would be useful to list markets. This is done in a few places in the table but not many. The Citroen ev'ie is available in the UK only at the moment and I imagine it will stay that way for some time since they convert a standard Citroen and presumably production would neeed to be modified for left hand drive vehicles, and they would need to be imported especially. There is no technical reason why this could not be done but it depends if the market would bear the extra cost, I guess.
As for Autobahn I don't know who put that in, but anyway I think it falls outside WP:WORLDWIDE anyway – surely it suffices just to give the speeds, which anyway are arbitrary and only, as far as I can see, used to break the table up into smaller chunks (perhaps unnecessarily). There is a different minimum limit, for example, on UK motorways (30mph I think but I can't remember off the top of my head). This kind of information should, if needed to be put in a separate article e.g. List of minimum and maximum speed limits worldwide or something like that.

Low speed[edit]

Is this article intended to be a complete list? I notice that the top speed is 40 or 50 km/hr - which looks suspiciously like a limit imposed upon the car to fit a regulation. Are these NEVs, or what?

The way the electric car articles are organized now gives the impression that my only choices are an expensive sports car like a Tesla, or a very slow car that I can't drive outside of the city where I live. --Uncle Ed (talk) 16:55, 3 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

City speed vs. Highway capable[edit]

The article draws an upper limit for city speed vehicles at 100 km/h while the lower limit stated for highway capable vehicles is 90 km/h. This seems to be contradictory in my eyes. I could accept additional criteria for the highway capable category, e.g. range, but there's non written down, and so for instance

  • Subaru Stella EV is in the city speed group with stated max speed 97 km/h
  • QBeak is amongst the highway capable with max. speed 90 km/h.

Agreed. I'm for changing the top speed limits to:


60 km/h (37 mph) or less - Low Speed
100 km/h (62 mph) or less - City
105 km/h (65 mph) or more - Highway
200 km/h (120 mph) or more - Raceway


That does leave a gap, but so far I have not seen any car fall inside that 100-105km/h space. Plus, US Highways are typically traveled at speeds in excess of 104km/h (65 mph), and some have speed limits of 120km/h (which US drivers treat as the minimum speed for those roads).
Does anyone know about speed limits in other countries?

In the german wiki the lower speed limits are used, meaning if a vehicle is allowed to use the highway. In Germany vehicles reaching 80km/h are allowed to use the highway.

200 km/h (120 mph) or more - Raceway (since Tesla Model S and Rimac M1 already integrated in Highway capable, lets transfer this section complete to "Highway" and remove "raceway")

Removing home-made racecar[edit]

The 30 yrs old BMW E30 design is listed as Raceway-capable electric car; reference is a home video of a street race of a custom-built car. I'm removing this row from the table; please revert or discuss if don't agree. Also removing same video as reference from other cars.

"VW Beetle dragster" is also suspicious, but may refer to E-Bugster

Lots of questions[edit]

-Is Chevrolet Volt an electric car? As far as I know it's nothing more, than plug-in hybrid. If plug-in hybrids are taken into account where is Toyota Prius plug-in? -Tesla Roadster maximum speed seems questionable. It's around 200km/h for version which was sold to public, never heared about Tesla capable of reaching 300km/h. Why it's beeing listed twice? BTW it's beeing phased out and soon will be unavaliabe -Tesla Model S missing -101-104km/h gap -Placing experimental vehicles in "currently avaliabe" list seems wrong...

Remove/trim Charging time and Market release date and sale[edit]

These two sections make many of the entries in the tables very tall, and I think the disadvantages in readability are larger than the information provided. What do you think?

"Currently available" vs "formerly available"[edit]

There are a lot of discontinued cars on the list, e.g. the Chevy Spark. I suggest moving them to a separate list of "formerly available" cars. User talk:Zowie

Cleanup[edit]

Not unwieldy yet. Splitting it by country will require massive duplication of effort. How many countries/markets will we need to divide it into - there are over 200 countries in the world. Do we list places like Hong Kong separately from China (HK is owned by China but run separately)? Do we list California separately from the US (Cal has long been quite different to most of the other US states)? Do we split up Europe or treat it as a single entity? Mess of defunct lists[edit]

Today (May 2019) there exist five lists in English language wikipedia that largely overlap and all of which are far from a complete, updated state:

List of hybrid vehicles (hybrid electric vehicles equipped with both combustion engines and electric drivetrains)

List of modern production plug-in electric vehicles (with pure battery vehicles, but also plug-ins, also some motorcycles and small trucks)

List of production battery electric vehicles (mainly a list with few notes on each car, also some non-car entries like motorcyles and light trucks, only purely electric vehicles)

List of production battery electric vehicles (table)

List of electric cars currently available (table with some details of cars, but lower number of entries)

List of modern production plug-in electric vehicles available in the United States (only cars, plug-in hybrids and purely electric cars)

There is also the List of electric scooters (German Wikipedia).

Some of these lists miss small size electric vehicles like the Renault Twizy. It may be easy to set ups such lists at some point in time by copying from other assembled data, but it is more difficult to keep them updated. For comparison: There is nothing like a “list of fossil fuel cars” for all conventional cars combined.

I would suggest to freeze most of all of the lists, unless someone would like to merge them into one list each for plug-in hybrids and pure electric cars. And even such list could be frozen as electric cars become standard. Meerwind7 (talk) 07:59, 6 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Im not in a mood to fight this battle, but a list which is constantly changing its content is not appropriate for an encyclopedia. I doubt anyone can understand why this is so, as i have become intensly cynical in the last hour, having found this and another serious flaw in content at Wikisites today. Fully agree for constant changes; but could be upheld as a "history of electric cars" site.

Proposed solution: Termination of updates and renaming of list[edit]

Electric and hybrid cars are becoming more comonpace. When at some time most types of car will have a electric or hybrid variant, it is not meaningful and imossible to keep these lists updates. I suggest to terminate new entries for any new models that enter(ed) the market after 2018, and rename it correspondingly. The list would thus grudually evolve into a historic document of early actvities in the car industrie in the first two decades of this millennium. This would not preclude some notes about highly significant new market entries or best-selling cars of that type. Merge status?[edit]

It looks like there was a semi-recent conversation about the nature of this page, with a result that the desired result would be merging the information on this page with information on other, similar pages. I haven't seen any meaningful changes since this conversation.

I'm wondering if anyone is actively watching this page, and still thinking about direct actions to take here. If not, I'd like to lead a new initiative in that direction, perhaps with a brief revisit of the topic.

Agree, No coffee, please. It seems that there is a consensus of recent edits (since 2019, above) on the mess of lists, and EV lists in particular, that this one (which is typically not updated) should be done away with. Pinging Meerwind7, 99.157.206.179,  Stepho  Seems someone just needs to make a clear proposal on the proposed action to be taken, and then see if a consensus forms to actually do that. I'll add there's similar duplication/redundancy between all of the aforementioned pages, and a handful of categories: Category:Electric_vehicles, Category:Electric_cars, Category:Battery_electric_cars, Category:Electric_car_models, and Category:Electric_city_cars. My proposed solution would be that all of the pages for lists of models are folded into a category (ideally, Category:Electric_cars) with non-model-specific pages being moved to a category such as Category:Electric_Vehicle_Industry). Maintaining a manual list at this point is simply wholly untenable, as within a few years (by all accounts, 2035 at the latest), such a list will simply comprise of every car in the world. Previous discussions may have been a bit inconclusive but it's a fast-moving industry, and we've clearly reached an inflection point in the past six months ago. Gonna tag in User:Missvain, who arbitrated the original AfD. Looks like [original AfD] was two votes for delete, two votes for merge. Somehow that resulted in a decision of 'merge'. But nothing was done and I think the deletion action here (with a redirect towards a category) is the clear path forward in late 2021, as the industry has exploded. I'm recently new as an editor but I believe a nomination of merge gives us the latitude to take whichever actions seem appropriate to that goal. However, as I think it's fair to say this discussion is bigger than this one page, the AfD nomination is 100% worth revisiting as well.

Thanks for your input here, N2e. I'm going to make some initial headroom by cleaning Category:Electric_cars & Category:Electric_vehicles. As you've pointed out, WP:MOS suggests the new topic category should be Category:Electric vehicle industry and as it happens that category already exists! So no need to get crazy, the actions here are obvious anything that is not of the 'set' of electric cars should instead be under the topic Category:Electric vehicle industry. Looks like I'm too low on edits to have privileges at Wikipedia:Requests_for_permissions/AutoWikiBrowser for mass re-categorizations, can anyone else help there? — No coffee, please. My idea would be to just do the work to improve the article, No coffee, please., and leave the more expansive category work for later, either when you feel like doing it, or after you've figured out how to get some beneficent Wiki-privilege-granter to give you the tools to do more automated category work. As per discussions, and a AfD which resulted in a general consensus of merge, I'm doing some WP:BOLD merging, given how out of control this entire hierarchy is, and will continue to be over the next year or two if not course-corrected immediately.

Ramifications, thoughts, and actions for List of electric cars currently available

  • At some point in the next ten to fifteen years, "list of all electric cars currently available" will literally be equivalent to "list of all cars available", making such a list completely untenable.
  • The entire list is already massively completely out of date. Full of false positives, and about one fifth as long as it needs to be, at minimum. You can see the difference in length between this list, and the one on List of production battery electric vehicles. Compare as well to

]], which I'm currently still building and is expected to hit ~400 items long, a good majority of those being models still in-production.

  • As the category of builds, I'd like to heuristically build a list of active production cars to meet the functionality served by this page. I'm working on a script for this right now.
  • As per the AfD discussion, it's best to deprecate usage of this page and redirect to List of production battery electric vehicles, which itself references .
  • I'm adding such a redirect now. All relevant models on this page have already been verified to exist on List of production battery electric vehicles, and have been added to as well.
