Nationality[edit]

Why do we list the nationality of the coaches when every one of them is American except the Canadian coach for the Canadian team? Reywas92Talk 04:18, 3 January 2009 (UTC)[reply]

More coaching news[edit]

Could someone please update the article again to reflect the most recent coaching news?

--ILikeWatchingFights (talk) 22:56, 27 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Done, edited the lead paragraph. If you're talking about Kevin McHale and the Houston Rockets, the deal has not been finalized yet, according to McHale himself earlier today.[1]MT (talk) 04:41, 28 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Still more coaching news[edit]

Yet another update needed[edit]

Could someone please update the article again to reflect the most recent information?

--184.6.219.143 (talk) 20:00, 15 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the reminder. Sorry for the delay, not a lot of editors are watching and maintaining this article. If you want, you can be bold and do the update yourself. — MT (talk) 07:36, 16 March 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Finished a rough update of the article to reflect 2011/2012 numbers; final numbers for Blazers, citations, number checking needed[edit]

I updated the article to reflect where things stood as of the end of the 2011/2012 season, but could someone please add citations where needed (I have NO idea whatsoever how to cite references on Wikipedia), fix any number crunching errors I made (I just scraped the numbers together as best I could and then basically walked away, only returning to update the lead section) and add the final numbers for the Blazers.

Chronology error when sorting[edit]

When sorting the list of coaches by start date, this is what appears:

Byron Scott Los Angeles Lakers Pacific July 28, 2014 82 21 61 .256 1,019 437 582 .429

Melvin Hunt Denver Nuggets Northwest March 3, 2015 23 10 13 .435 23 10 13 .435

George Karl Sacramento Kings Pacific February 17, 2015 30 11 19 .367 1,917 1,142 775 .596

This is clearly wrong (well at least the order for the Kings and Nuggets), as a quick glance at any reputable calendar will prove. --Bigpoliticsfan (talk) 01:25, 30 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Luke Walton notation?[edit]

Although Luke Walton has only ever been the head coach for the Lakers, would it be worth noting his time as interim head coach for GSW/explaining that it doesn't officially count towards his HC record? Casual fans may remember his time coaching the Warriors in Kerr's absence and be confused.

Page moves[edit]

@Muboshgu, Dlambe3, and Sabbatino: I see there was a recent move of this article to "List of current National Basketball Association head coaches", followed by restoration of the original title, followed by another move to "current". I have restored the longstanding title and have move-protected the article. It can only be moved again if consensus for the move is reached at this talk page. (I earlier posted this discussion at Talk:List of National Basketball Association head coaches with 400 games coached, because through some glitch the talk page of the “current” article moved to there instead of to this page. I’ve fixed that. Let’s assume that’s a separate issue and just figure out how this page should be titled.) -- MelanieN (talk) 23:34, 29 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

i think that after I moved the original page to “current” it was reverted quickly. However the bot later automatically moved the talk page even though the change had been reverted. Dlambe3 (talk) 02:10, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
So I think that the bot didn’t have time to move the talk page before the change was reverted. Dlambe3 (talk) 02:17, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
As far as the page titles, I think I that there should be one page for each of the big 4 US sports leagues with an all-time coaches list and one page with a current coaches list. That’s just my opinion though. There’s no edit war; it’s just a delay by the bot.Dlambe3 (talk) 02:17, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MelanieN: I have not made any moves to this page so I do not see why I am pinged here. However, it should have been discussed in the first place before moving the page to "List of current National Basketball Association head coaches". All pages of the other "big 4" leagues do not have "current" in their titles – List of NHL head coaches, List of National Football League head coaches, List of Major League Baseball managers. In addition, the Wikipedia:Manual of Style#Current guideline clearly says that "current" should be avoided as it can become dated very quickly. As for creating a list of the "all-time coaches for each of the four leagues", that is just plain overkill. That is why we have WP:CATEGORY, which helps avoid the creation of long, non notable, trivial, etc. lists. – Sabbatino (talk) 07:12, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

OK, so where we stand is: Dlambe3 likes the idea of "one page for each of the big 4 US sports leagues with an all-time coaches list and one page with a current coaches list", but didn't discuss it with anyone. Muboshgu objected that "current" or "currently" is discouraged here per the manual of style. Sabbatino, I pinged you because you seem to be the primary maintainer of this article; it sounds as if you also object to this proposed rename. Bottom line, this move/retitling does not have consensus. Also, I would caution Dlambe that at this point they don't have consensus for the "all time coaches" idea either. -- MelanieN (talk) 19:18, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

DLambe3, I see that you also moved List of National Basketball Association general managers to List of current National Basketball Association general managers, and when Muboshgu reverted the move, you moved it again. I have restored the longstanding title. You also did it to List of Major League Baseball general managers, although you didn’t do it again after it got reverted. You need to discuss and get consensus before making this kind of move. Seriously. This kind of unilateral title moving, and especially doing it again when someone reverts, is disruptive.
BTW all of you, I noticed that the Template:NBA general managers has the internal title “Current heads of basketball operations in the National Basketball Association.” Do you think that should be changed, or is “current” OK there? -- MelanieN (talk) 19:35, 30 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@MelanieN:} Well yes. You can say that I am possibly the primary maintainer since this page is on my watchlist. And I do oppose to the proposed rename. The question about the template's heading at Template:NBA general managers should be asked at WT:NBA since more opinions would be given there about the matter. – Sabbatino (talk) 06:16, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the suggestion. Looking deeper at the history, I see that it has said "current" in the heading ever since the template was created in 2009. Given that long a history of acceptance I am going to drop it. -- MelanieN (talk) 17:47, 31 May 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Nate McMillan[edit]

Mistake, the person in the photo wearing the red jacket is not Nate McMillan, coach of the Atlanta Hawks. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.33.84.49 (talk) 21:57, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
