Cleanup Needed[edit]

The Cleanup Process[edit]

I've been working on cleaning up the biographies, but have so far only edited Amy's and part of Anne's. I have not yet added references, so if anyone would like to, feel free to edit a bio or throw in some references. I'm not sure how to cite anything without citing the episodes themselves, and I neither know how to cite an episode (I'm very new to wikipedia) nor have the time to watch every episode to find out where each fact comes from. Most of the clean up has focused on editing the bios already on the page because there's a lot of work to be done on them. Also, no new characters have been added since early February, before Duncan appeared. But if you have the time, please add Duncan. I was thinking about that too; there's a lot of new characters that should be up as well, like Tammy (Tom's girlfriend), Shawna, and John (the baby). I'd also vote to take a few off, like Dr. Hightower; she hasn't appeared since the beginning. Liquidluck (talk)

Major/Minor Characters[edit]

In accordance with Wikipedia format, listed major characters should only be characters listed in the opening credits- in this show, they are shown right after the theme song. The list goes, "Shailene Woodley, Kenny Baumann, Mark Derwin, India Eisley, Greg Finley, Daren Kagasoff, Megan Park, Francia Raisa, Jorge-Luis Pallo, and Molly Ringwald". These should be the actors listed in the main characters, which means that as adorable as John is, he isn't a main character. Neither are Lauren and Madison. -Liquidluck (talk)

John's Full Name[edit]

I have switched John's full name from John Underwood Juergens to John Juergens, as verified by "Unto Us, A Child Is Born". The only other full names discussed in the episode are John Boykevich and, more often and specifically, John Boykevich Juergens, but I'm not sure if either of these are his official name. John Underwood Juergens is not mentioned during the episode. I searched Google and ABCfamily and also found no confirmation on John's name. Therefore, until we can cite a verifiable source, John's name should be left as John Juergens, the only name backed up by the episode.

Ashley: John.

Amy: I like John. Do we know a John? Why John?

Ashley: Goes with Juergens.

Amy: Goes with Boykevich as well.

Ashley: Yeah, go with John. You need a nice, clean, simple name. That kid's life will be complicated enough.

Amy: A lot of great men are named John too. John F. Kennedy, John Kennedy Jr., John Quincy Adams,

Ashley: Pope John Paul

Amy: John Lennon, John Cougar Meloncamp

Ashley: He dropped the Cougar, it's just John Meloncamp again. But you can do that when your name is John.

Amy: John Glenn, John Irving.

Ashley: Johnny Cash.

Amy: Johnny Rotten.

Ashley: John Deere.

Amy (looking at baby): John Boykevich Juergens.

Sounds to me like the baby's name is John Boykevich Juergens. But I'll hold off on changing it again until we get a confirming secondary source. -Liquidluck (talk)

New Layout Discussion[edit]

I don't know if this layout is practical for an encyclopedic article. In my opinion, it gives undue weight to minor characters, which is to avoided. For example, Reverend Stone gets as much prominence as George Juergens in the article. It also seems like it changes the article to be more in-universe than necessary by breaking the characters into family groups instead of importance. I'm also concerned that once the new season starts, there will be edit warring moving Ricky and John around, but that's not a primary reason.

Instead, I propose we create a List of main characters in the Secret Life of the American Teenager page, where we list the main characters in their own headers complete with infoboxes, and leave this page for minor characters. If there are no objections, I'll do it soon- I only ask because someone took a bit of time to create this layout. Thanks, Liquidluck (talk) 14:02, 10 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
