Citations[edit]

Shouldn't each transfer how it's own citation? I really don't like the format of the citations at the moment, it makes it much harder to verify each citation. Govvy (talk) 19:13, 24 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Unfortunately, since someone decided a few years ago to expand these lists beyond the Premier League and the Championship, we now have to accommodate for hundreds of transfers. I'm not sure if you know this, but Wikipedia pages have a limit on the amount of content they can transclude from other pages (e.g. a set number of templates). Because of this, if we tried to add a separate reference for every transfer, the article would eventually stop transluding the templates and the bottom of the article wouldn't look very good at all. Condensing all of the transfers we can into a single reference (and thanks to the BBC, we have one) avoids this problem. Personally, I would return these articles to just the Premier League and the Championship, but clearly that's not what the people want... – PeeJay 09:06, 25 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Related to my above point, the sort function is now broken, presumably because there is too much content on the page. Since no reason was ever given for the article needing to include League One and League Two transfers, I am going to reduce it down to Premier League and Championship when I get home from work. If you have any objections to this, speak now or forever hold your peace. – PeeJay 10:51, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@PeeJay2K3: I would of thought a better fix would be one table per month. Govvy (talk) 10:57, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
But then you wouldn’t be able to sort all of the transfers by fee, club, etc. – PeeJay 11:46, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
@PeeJay2K3: Cut it down to the first two leagues. Kante4 (talk) 14:52, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
What about teams that were relegated to League One at the end of last season? Should they be included or not? – PeeJay 21:06, 24 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Personally, i would only take the current teams. Those who were relegated should not be in here. Kante4 (talk) 08:06, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
Except the list covers the period from the end of the last window (Feb 1), which is before those teams were relegated. I reckon we should leave the relegated teams in, since they were Championship clubs until the end of the season. – PeeJay 09:38, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
I've started trimming the list now and there's actually only a couple of teams this applies to. I've decided that relegated teams should be included, but only up to the last day of last season, and the opposite for teams promoted from League One, which shouldn't be included before the end of last season. – PeeJay 10:00, 25 August 2019 (UTC)[reply]
