The intent to create this article was discussed on the Bert Jansch talk page. Ogg made some suggestions which are copied here:

The "Les Cousins" club in the basement of a Greek Restaurant in 48 Greek Street (several sources give Frith Street instead) might have been named after the Claude Chabrol film of the same name (1959). It was formed about 1963-4. (http://renbourn.camhosts.net/sohoyears.htm)

Everyone pronounced it as if it was was English, not French. Run by Alexis Korner, first resident was Noel Murphy (Who he? - http://www.tudorfolkclub.org.uk/tudarch_2003_1.htm)

Tiny Points

Certainly the article is correct: Greek Street rather than Frith Street. My old membership card, like the album mentioned, gives the street number as 49. So we might drop the reference to what is likely a typo on John Renbourn’s website. The telephone number (if we wanted to be completest!) was GERrard 5413. —Ian Spackman 16:43, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

Recording Location of 49 Greek Street album

I have long since lost my copy, and can't confirm this (the album now goes for exorbitant prices on eBay), but my recollection is that at least some of the tracks on the 49 Greek Street album were studio recordings, not actually recorded in Les Cousins as stated in the article (though all the artists performed there at times). Hmmn—time to check my house contents insurance? Neither the sleeve nor the label offer any details about where it was recorded. There’s just a dedication reading

“For everyone who’s ever been to, played or sung at 49 Greek Street.”

I’ve just played it through and only heard an audience once: a few people laugh at Keith Christmas’s spoken introduction to Robin Head. So it’s hard to say. It doesn’t have the feel of a live recording; that’s the only track with any address to an audience, and even on that one any applause at the end has been edited out. (Which means that the absence of applause on the other tracks doesn}t offer hints.) Not very helpful, I fear. —Ian Spackman 16:33, 3 June 2007 (UTC)
