History[edit]

If this article is to be about length measurement in general, then it would be useful to have a section on the history of length measurement. As the article currently stands it discusses only modern techniques. —Psychonaut (talk) 08:44, 27 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Scope of the article[edit]

The article says "Length measurement is implemented in practice in many ways. The most commonly used approaches are the transit-time methods and the interferometer methods based upon the speed of light." This seems very unlikely. The most common methods of length measurement are probably the ruler, tape measure, odometer or perhaps eye. The article should be rewritten or at least the introduction should make it clear that the article refers only to some specific scientific contexts. Thanks.
