This is a very incredible article! It's a very comprehensive article, despite the high level of complexity of the subject. The structure is clear and each covered elements received equal attention.

My main criticism is that some sentences are very long, which can impede reading. I would recommend to reduce the length of some sentences by simplifying, subtracting repetitive words or simply in putting your ideas in two different sentences. Here some examples.

-In the first sentence of the lead section: "Legacy sediment (LS) is the term used to describe bodies of sediment produced by depositional episodes associated with processes that have been significantly accelerated by human activities [1] ranging as far back as the Neolithic [2]." could be... "Legacy sediment is the term used to describe depositional bodies of sediment inherited from the increase of human activities since the Neolithic."

-At the end of the lead section: "In this sense, recognizing and understanding the processes that resulted from the deposition and storage of LS can be an important consideration for informed policy development in stream restoration [1][25] and the management of water quality [26], aquatic ecosystems [27], sediment budgets [28] and flood risk." could be... " In this sense, acknowledging the concept of LS would benefit informed policy development in stream restoration, water quality and sediment budget management, protection of aquatic ecosystems and flood risk.

-In the before-last sentence of section about Reduced sedimentation: " The Colorado River in the Grand Canyon Levee construction in the lower Mississippi River reduced overbank flows by 90%, bank stabilization measures reduced bank erosion and meander's lateral migration, and dikes produced bed scour during low flows due to increased flow velocity, which ultimately lead to storage on the floodplain declining from 89,600 to 7,000 square kilometers in the time period between 1882-2000 [56]" could be... " The Grand Canyon Levee's construction in the lower Mississippi river reduced overbank flows by 90%. Bank stabilization measures associated with this project reduced bank erosion and meander lateral migration, while dikes induced bed scour during low flows due to increased flow velocity. Overall, this project lead to a decrease of sediment storage on the floodplain from 89,600 to 7,000 square kilometers between 1882-2000.

This is a really well done article! I appreciated how often you linked specific phrases to other wikipedia articles. Since my knowledge on hydrology is very limited, it was useful to be able to just click to, for example, wetland alluvium to learn more about it.

Your "see also", "further reading", and "external links" sections are fantastic! For those readers that were interested in what they read in your article, these sections give them opportunities to learn even more!
