Compare Nanjing Massacre. If DagosNavy's undiscussed move was just poor English, kindly don't "correct" others' pages or look for similar pages for comparison first. If it was just misunderstood and misapplied British English, still don't. This is a single proper noun (i.e., name) and, to the extent that this is a dialect issue, the page obviously started with the other one. — LlywelynII 23:37, 30 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Siraya?[edit]

Liuqiu Island says the inhabitants were the Siraya. Obviously, if that can be better sourced, it should be used here in place of "natives", "inhabitants", etc. — LlywelynII 00:16, 31 March 2019 (UTC)[reply]

According to this thesis ^: 62, 65, "the Formosans on the mainland of Formosa (possibly meaning the regions near Sakan, ie Siraya or Taivoan people) who were not able to understand the Lamey language very well; the Pangsoyans were said to have some understanding of it..." "Putmans ordered the Pangsoyans to be taken along on account of their understanding of the Lamey language...". The Pangsoyans are Makatao people, but we can not automatically say that Lameyers are Makatao people.

Ts'ao Yung-ho [曹永和]; Leonard Blussé (1995). 小琉球原住民的消失—重拾失落臺灣歷史的一頁. 平埔研究論文集 (in Chinese). suggested that the Lameyers were "seemed" to be Makataos (spelled Makatau in the paper).

Genocide or Massacre?[edit]

I'd guessed that the word "genocide" fits better than does "massacre". The Lameyers, apparently a different nation of people from the Dutch, were completely depopulated off the island. 118.150.131.136 (talk) 14:33, 29 October 2022 (UTC)[reply]
