Improving the Page[edit]

I think that this page has a very good layout. However, I think more information could be added to create a stronger, more informative section for the Kutenai language for future readers. I think that a list of the alphabet for the language would create a nice visual representation of the language and its components. A few examples of words would also provide a visual; maybe even a few sentences would create more insight. Reading about the revitalization programs was interesting, and I think it would be beneficial to keep the page updated on the success of keeping the languages alive. Knowing that the tribes are successfully bringing back their language may encourage readers to take part; and likewise if the tribes were failing. The final suggestion I have for this page is how the language has changed over time. What words have been added, have different parts of speech been altered, and if so then why. This would allow readers to see what influences the language, and give a better picture of how the language began and how it has evolved to survive.

Kutenai language → Ktunaxa language – It has been suggested that Ktunaxa language is now the more common term for this subject, and that the redirect should be reversed. I have moved the discussion here from Talk:Ktunaxa language, which asked for a move of the redirect, and fixed the request so that it is asking for a move of the article. Provisional support, if it is really the WP:COMMONNAME in relevant, modern sources. As with other contemplated language-related moves, we should follow the linguistics mainstream/consensus on this, as we do with all science topics. Oppose. "Kutenai language" continues to be the predominate use in 21st-century sources ([1] vs. [2]). Keep in mind that there are several Kutenai groups in both the U.S. and Canada, and they don't all have the same spelling preference. It's better to go with the one that's demonstrably more common. IMO, the people should be moved (back?) to Kutenai as well.--Cúchullain ^t/c 17:31, 30 May 2018 (UTC)[reply]

A student is editing this for their class project and wondered about shifting the title to Ktunaxa language instead of Kootenai language. We see there is a previous move discussion from 2018, but believe the common name is Ktunaxa overall for all varieties of the language as per academic literature.CESchreyer (talk) 20:47, 28 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
