Birth name and year[edit]

Glyph56 has (at least) twice, deleted his birth name (Crier) from the lead paragraph, and changed his birth year from 1961 to 1956. I am restoring the old version based on the following links: [1], [2], [3], [4]. I did find a page with the 1956 date, but it is suspiciously close in phrasing to this article: [5]. I played in a band with Keith for about 5 years and know him very well personally. Though I do not have references to cite (except these http://www.soulwalking.co.uk/G.Q.html, http://findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_m1355/is_n25_v91/ai_19391577, http://www.answers.com/topic/keith-sweat?cat=entertainment, http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=96574), I know for a fact that his birth name is Sweat, not Crier. His mother's name is Jua nita Sweat and they lived in the Grant Projects on 125 St. in Harlem, N.Y during the 70s. Keith (Sabu) Crier is a former bandmember and bassist for the 1970's group G.Q. They are not the same person. It is really a shame that Wikipedia does not do something to change this because this misinformation is cited all over the internet and I would bet that a lot of it came from the Wikipedia source. I also know that his birthdate is 1956, not 1961 because he is the same age as myself.

The above comment does not even make any sense-What chance would there be for two Keith Criers to be in the music business around the same time and both from New York? As mentioned previously, Keith Crier is the bassist from the group G.Q. Also, as mentioned, his mother's last name is Sweat, as are his siblings. I agree about the misinformation. I also believed that Keith Sweat was born in 1961 and that his name is Keith Crier. I have a friend that grew up with him in Grant projects (430 west 125th street) who always stated that he was born before 1961 because he's older than her (she was born in 1958) and that his real name is Keith Sweat (not Crier). I used to debate her and use Wikipedia as my source. But the poster above me Glyph56 verified what she told me all along. --Bxdale83 (talk) 17:35, 6 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

So, apparently Keith "Sabu" Crier (RIP), the bassist for GQ (as others in this "forum" have pointed out) was also Keith Sweat's uncle. Perhaps that fact has given rise to the (apparently erroneous) belief that Sweat's birth surname was also "Crier." However, perhaps "Sabu" was Sweat's uncle on his maternal side, meaning she would've changed her last name when she married Keith's father, Charles? RockNWrite82 (talk)

True. One paragraph of pure POV fancruft reads "The first single from the set is the sexy jam "Suga Suga Suga," featuring Paisley Bettis. Standout cuts include the hypnotic "Somebody," which showcases Sweat singing falsetto for the first time; the future classic "Love U Better," a truly memorable duet between Keith and hitmaker Keyshia Cole; and "Just Wanna Sex You," a hit-the-spot cut that Keith says is on the album "to remind people of what I've done and what I'm about musically." Can someone revisit this article and try to improve matters. Parts of it are more press release than encyclopedia. I also severely question the claims about record sales (despite the supposed RIAA reference). Thank you,

I agree with the POV "fancruft" statement. The "today" section needs a rewrite. It just sounds like an advert and not encyclopedic - Wikipedias aim is to provide cited, referenced material for research. Its not an add to buy a record or something.
