Sexuality redux[edit]

I've removed the "bisexual" category. While there's a ref provided - http://www.angelfire.com/mn/newpuritanreview/Archives/BikiniKill.html - it's to an interview hosted on angelfire, and the name of the periodical "New Puritan Review" only gets 8 google hits, so I can't tell how reliable a source it is. I've also seen the bisexual label put on her on glbtq.com - see http://www.glbtq.com/arts/rock_music,3.html - but that's in passing, so I don't know how reliable *it* is, either. And finally, the St. Petersburg Times says she's straight - see the citation in the article. So, unless there's a better ref someplace, I've taken off the category. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 02:12, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

St P. Times is the least reliable of all. That article does not say what the basis for the identification is (was it simply applied by the journalist because she has a b/f?). Citing it as a source simply pushes back the need for a 'source' further. An actual interview is reliable - unless one thinks it is invented. (Any reason to think so?) And the fact of her sexuality is hardly a secret - even though she may avoid the label. NIghtjar 17:19, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Per WP:BLP, there's gotta be a reliably sourced reference. If she avoids it, we can't label her. StP Times may not be reliable either, but an interview published on Angelfire from a periodical that doesn't have a website, doesn't show up on Google Scholar or Google News, and only has 11 hits on a regular Google search [1] doesn't sound any more reliable. Can't we find something better that states her sexuality? -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 17:30, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
"In recent years, for example, such rock musicians as singer-songwriter Ani DiFranco, Kathleen Hanna, of the bands Bikini Kill and Le Tigre...have all come out publicly as gay or bisexual".[2]. NIghtjar 17:39, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]
Yeh, I think glbtq.com is probably the most reliable source. I just wish it weren't mentioned in passing like that. But they're pretty good as far as sources go. -- SatyrTN (talk | contribs) 17:54, 14 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Made some headway on this: There's this 1993 Out Magazine article that calls her bisexual, although not many other credible sources affirm that, and in most interviews I've found she seems to be speaking as an ally rather than a community member. It's a bit murky but I edited the article to reflect that nuance.Invisiboy42293 (talk) 06:42, 9 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]

Birth date[edit]

Two different birth dates are provided in the same article. Was Hanna born in 1968 or 1970? Chuchunezumi (talk) 06:19, 7 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Planned Parenthood / YouTube[edit]

An editor cut a whole paragraph on KH's support for Planned Parenthood - reason This entire portion came from a Youtube video. Please do not cite Youtube videos. Personally I don't have a problem with using an article subject's own words, regardless of medium, as a source - especially when it comes to their opinions. But the quote is probably unnecessary, just a note that the remarks were made. Wwwhatsup (talk) 06:27, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

In addition, after a quick review of WP:NOYT and the video itself - I see no reason it shouldn't be used as a source. No tampering. No copyvio. Wwwhatsup (talk) 06:38, 21 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
I have condensed it thus: At the 2011 Planned Parenthood "Stand Up for Women's Health" Rally Hanna cited the origin of her enduring support of the organization. At 19 years old, having acquired an infection while on tour, and in a bad way, she was "met with open arms" at a clinic. [1] and added it back to the article. Kurt smells like Teen Spirit on his… wall?!? What wall??[edit]

Unless there was some physical wall dedicated to the then relatively unknown lead singer of Nirvana somewhere that she wrote graffiti on, this sounds dubious to say the least. Remember, 1991 was loooong before facebook and other social media. It’s doubtful if either even had access to the internet on more than a rare occasion, it was very much an expensive nerd thing for a very select few back then. Still hesitant to outright remove it - but it needs further elaboration/sources, if it isn’t completely made up bs. 213.237.93.126 (talk) 21:33, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

It was a physical wall in the place they were living. Binksternet (talk) 22:34, 5 June 2022 (UTC)[reply]

kathleen and kurt were friends and they got drunk and kathleen wrote "kurt smells like teen spirit" on his bedroom wall. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.252.174.192 (talk) 14:31, 15 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]
