Who consecrated him to the episcopate?[edit]

Who consecrated him to the episcopate? --Jaques O. Carvalho 22:55, 9 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Karekin II or Garegin II?[edit]

Since Garegin II, the incumbent Catholicos in Etchmiadzin is from Voskehat, Armenia, thus the proper transliteration of the name must be according to Eastern Armenian transliteration Garegin II rather than the Western Armenian Karekin II.

This is in great difference to Karekin I before him (effectively Karekin II of Cilicia later Karekin I of Etchmiadzin). This Catholicos (Karekin I) who was born in the Middle East (in Kessab Syria actually) and is a Western Armenian making his name pronounced Karekin according to Western Armenian transliteration. He used Karekin exclusively when he was in Antelias so I presume his name as Karekin can stay. So I would say Karekin I (in case of the previous Catholicos), but Garegin II in case of the present catholicos.

Incidentally I support keeping the pronunciations of contemporary Armenian names according to the individuals' origin and applying of Eastern Armenian pronunciations for people originating from Armenia and former Soviet Union, and Western Armenian pronunciations and conventions for people from Ottoman Empire and Armenians of the Diaspora. werldwayd (talk) 06:11, 15 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Criticism section[edit]

There seems to be quite a bit of criticism of Karekin II from Armenians. See: http://www.keghart.com/Editorial-Catholicos

Since he is a public leader, it would be good to incorporate controversies and objections to his authority into this article. 74.141.69.51 (talk) 23:05, 23 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

This listing was edited 8 hours ago to say he was “former” head of the armenian church[edit]

There is no corroborating evidence of this change in his role. Please fix it ArmenChakmakjian (talk) 16:49, 26 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
