Channel 3[edit]

Mine comes in on channel 3. It is not the Sacramento NBC. I get that on channel twentysomething. 24.4.131.142 20:51, 6 November 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Frank Daryn's Dance Party in the late 1950's-Early 1960's[edit]

Do you have any clips of that? My husband was on back then, and we're DYING to see some of the clips.209.244.43.80 (talk) 20:03, 26 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Boldfacing[edit]

There is no justification in WP:BOLDFACE for boldfacing hte names of TV shows. This is especially true where the TV show is in its own section with a subheading. The reader will have no trouble navigating through the article, and does not need the clutter of superfluous boldfacing. Ground Zero | t 16:41, 20 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Significant trimming of Former Staff section[edit]

I just cut everyone out of the alumni section that does not have their own Wikipedia page or have a reference to establish their notability. This is the current consensus procedure, based on discussions at WP:WikiProject Television Stations and at [the Village Pump]. The rationales are as follows:

  1. Most importantly, per WP:NOT, Wikipedia is "not an indiscriminate collection of information." As that section describes, just because something is true, doesn't necessarily mean the info belongs in Wikipedia.
  2. Secondarily, per WP:V, we cannot include information that is not verifiable and sourced. I'm not certain how it would even be possible to source this information.
  3. Per WP:BLP, we have to be especially careful about including un-sourced info about living persons.

All of the people with their own pages are notable enough to appear on this list. However, if you look at pages about companies in general, you will not find mention of previous employees, except in those cases where the employee was particularly notable. Even then, the information is not presented just as a list of info, but is incorporated into the text itself (for example, when a company's article talks about the policies a previous CEO had, or when they mention the discovery/invention of a former engineer/researcher). If the alumni section has been trimmed, then, certainly as alluded to above, some mention indeed needs to be made in the body of the article, more than it already is, of KNTV's 40-year history as the subregion's ABC affiliate, and the on-air personalities best known and regarded during that era. The station was known, and quite highly regarded, for a focus on local news centered around San Jose. This entire article focuses rather disproportionately on the current and recent history of KNTV as an NBC O&O and practically ignores 40 years of its rather extensive and deep history as the South Bay's "hometown" ABC station. --Msr69er (talk) 10:04, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

KNTV Programming[edit]

In November 2010, KNTV seems to be running a "hyper-localized" version of its 4:30 a.m. newscast. The one that I saw was called "Today in the East Bay." I assume that "Today in the East Bay" is sent only over cable TV to the East Bay area. Does anyone know anything more? Does KNTV have other "hyper-localized" newscasts?Jab73 (talk) 08:28, 10 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I believe that when I first saw Today in the 'East' Bay, to me, it is a half-hour morning show that primarily focuses on the East Bay Area. You may be right about "hyper-localized" (and I believe it is the only show that is of that type), but when I saw the show, it seems to put more focus on the East Bay rather than the rest of the Bay Area. I think this is because that the East Bay may have some contributions to crimes that often happen in some communities, but it is not limited to Oakland or Richmond. From my experience, though, the show also focuses on all of the Bay Area when major events occur anywhere in the Bay Area. The weather and traffic portion also primarily focuses on the East Bay as well, but as I said, it is not limited to just the East Bay. CHAK 001 (talk) 04:29, 31 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Anchor and Reporter Confirmation[edit]

For the reader's convenience, the sports' anchors that has been confirmed on-air will be updated as needed. No sources are required (though it is recommended when there are available links including the mention), but the mentioning of "on-air only" must be added to be considered valid. It will be confirmed during newscasts currently due to lack of online references and due to a limited number of anchors that are confirmed online. CHAK 001 (Improvements? Please let me know!) 09:21, 25 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

One more note: Please note to verify that all anchors has been confirmed on-air; a number of IP users added personalities that some users were unable to confirm, either on-air or via the website. CHAK 001 (Improvements? Please let me know!) 12:50, 9 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Issues with receiving KNTV over the air[edit]

There are [longstanding reports] of people not being able to receive KNTV over the air despite all other major channels working. Many reports speculate that Comcast is intentionally maintaining poor signal quality or at least being complacent about addressing the issue. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 98.210.184.27 (talk) 21:54, 23 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

KNTV history[edit]

KNTV had a translator for the western reaches of Santa Clara valley (Palo Alto) on channel 56 before the translator shut down when KNTV switched affiliations from ABC to the WB to NBC in the early 2000s. [1] I always wondered KNTV can be received north in San Francisco and Oakland, despite KNTV limited their signals when it was under ABC affiliation, and when KGO 7 aired a local major league sports game, did KNTV showed ABC primetime programs for KGO viewers? 2605:E000:FDCA:4200:8CE3:33F8:10A3:5BB8 (talk) 23:37, 27 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

References

I cannot immediately confirm if KNTV specifically ever ran ABC network programming as an alternative when KGO would run a local sporting event, but I would assume generally not. KGO, unlike KNTV (during its ABC affiliation), is an owned-and-operated station of ABC, and as such, they generally clear 99.9% of network programming; the likelihood of KGO ever pre-empting network programming for local sports would be extremely low (but would be higher for news coverage or an occasional news-related documentary on a topic of significant local interest). I grew up in Oakland in the 1970s and 1980s and can confirm that KNTV's over-the-air signal was receivable in Oakland, but only as fringe reception with much snow and noise unless the TV was equipped with a very strong antenna (I would assume the signal would grow stronger in the suburban areas of Southern Alameda County (such as Fremont approaching San Jose).--Msr69er (talk) 10:19, 13 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
