I just found an English translation of the book (dating I believe from 1929) titles as “Power”. Is this a worthy submission to this article? —IanVG (talk) 11:59, 9 June 2021 (UTC)[reply]

who is the character's mother?[edit]

Judaism is passed on through the maternal side. The fact that the character's father was a German nobleman would not mean the man wasn't Jewish if his MOTHER was still Jewish. Ken Burch 02:35, 7 February 2010 (UTC) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.237.5.200 (talk)

His mother was Jewish, but this is beside the point. You're referring Jewish orthodox tradition, but this is about state law. In this specific historic place and time, the son of a christian nobleman would have been accepted as a full citizen. The same result would have been achieved if Oppenheimer had agreed to convert to Christianity and be baptized. But he is proud to have been successful without this means, and so he keeps his father, when he finally learns about him, a secret. Bohemien (talk) 12:23, 6 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]
