Controversy Section[edit]

While cleaning up some vandalism in the Controversy section, I noticed—and removed—some unsupported assertions. For example, "main targets" should be supported by a ref. The entire section has been in a Citation Needed state for over two years, so it's a good candidate for complete removal if some sources are not cited.

Bannon's surname?[edit]

Why is the etymological derivation of Bannon's surname relevant? Hadji is not noted as "one having made a hadj (pilgrimage to Mecca or other religious site)"; why should one name be treated differently?

More important, is it relevant to the article? I think not.

The contributor might have been trying to insinuate a connection between Race's hair color and the stated meaning of the name. However, that would only be relevant to the "Stretch" Bannon character and only if that character's hair had been white. So, my thought is that it should be removed. Hadji's Surname[edit]

Although Hadji is given the name "Hadji Singh" in "The Real Adventures of Jonny Quest," his last name is never stated in the 1964 series. Model sheets for the character give his name as "Hadji" and "Haji." After adoption, his last name might be presumed to be Quest, but this is never mentioned. Later easter eggs[edit]

The fact that a bit of this series was seen briefly in Incredibles 2 doesn't tell us anything meaningful about Jonny Quest. It tells us that the director of that film is probably a fan. So am I. So are a lot of other people. So what? How does the reader understand more about Jonny Quest by knowing who liked it? Now, you might find some reliable sources that argue that it says something significant about i2, how that new film was inspired by JQ or something, and maybe that would fit with that article. Sorry to dig up the cadaver of an old post. I know there's a term for it. Necro-something.

I don't agree that this was an Easter egg as such because you don't have to hunt for it. Watching Jonny Quest is part of the action in the scene -- it's what the character is doing and there's nothing else to look at. Later in the movie, there's a "Quest Laboratories" billboard in the background of a couple of shots, and you have to take your eyes away from the main action in order to see it. That's an Easter egg.

We're not really talking about Easter eggs, though. The item in question was in the "Appearances in other programs" section. I can't say whether it should have been removed or not, but the meaningful thing these items say collectively about Jonny Quest is that the series has not been forgotten.

FYI, Brad Bird is famously a JQ fan. He appears in the JQ documentary on the Warner Bros. DVD and Blu-ray releases of the series and has mentioned JQ in interviews. He says that, if he was going to do a JQ movie, it would be animated, not live action. JQ Easter eggs in his other movies include "The Incredibles" where the shape of the aircraft that carries the robot to the city is copied from "The Robot Spy" episode; and "Tomorrowland," where there's a Gold Key Jonny Quest comicbook on the boy's workbench near the start of the movie, plus the box for a Jonny Quest puzzle (near a Real Adventures of JQ item) in the toy shop later in the film. The boy is also working on a jet pack, which was probably inspired by JQ.

BTW, one or two music cues written for Jonny Quest (1964) are used under a cartoon being watched in the "Speed Racer" movie. It's mentioned in the end credits.

In the Freakazoid series, the "Toby Danger" short is a parody of Jonny Quest, including the opening credits. JQ pastiches are also evident in the "Wishbones" short in The Grim Adventures of Billy and Mandy, and in a segment of the "Channel Chasers" TV movie from The Fairly OddParents.
