Unfounded assertion[edit]

I have removed the following text, which is unsubstantiated:

It is derived the Middle English name for Joseph.^{[citation needed]} As a descendant from Joseph, it keeps its original Hebrew language meaning of "He [God] will increase".

According to the two major US genealogical databases, Family Search and Ancestry.com, Jolene occasionally appears as a baptismal name in England in the sixteenth and early seventeenth centuries. These are almost certainly transcription errors by American researchers who have misread the microfilm copies of the original parish registers, substituting a name they know for a name that is difficult to read. An example is for Weston Favell in Northamptonshire where on 30 June 1599 a boy was christened as Joseph Travell. ^[1] The transcriber has read this as Jolene Crawell.
