Sex as indicated by name[edit]

From the text. But John's 'brother' with the name 'Beverly'. Is it not a brother, or is that not the actual name, which seems to be feminine. (Dumarest (talk) 20:25, 3 September 2012 (UTC))[reply]

At that time Beverley/Beverly was also a man's name (or first a man's name.) The first surviving child of Sally Hemings and Jefferson was Beverly Hemings. His brother Eston Hemings named one of his sons for him. It's sourced.Parkwells (talk) 21:05, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]
