A birth in early December 1877 can be derived from context in the biography that covers his parents. In order to get the exact date, I used the birth search facility on the Births, Deaths & Marriages website: Enter Family Name (Rolleston), Given Name(s) (John), Search From Date (04/12/1877) and Search To Date (04/12/1877) - this is the only date that will return his birth certificate.
