Family comments[edit]

I don't think we can include comments by family members here unfortunately- we have to rely on published sources. Regards Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 21:14, 7 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Ruffatti[edit]

Ruffatti may have a stronger case. I would like to see the documents he references (I read Italian). Nonetheless, just because you personally want to believe he has a stronger case does not mean there is no difference of views. In order to keep the article NPOV, you have to present the views of both sides. David Lasocki has an alternative point of view. Next time I am in Italy visiting family, I'll head over to Bassano del Grappa and have a look at these famous "alcuni documenti" and see if they are as definitive as you think they are. In the meanwhile, I'll see if I can get hold of Ruffati's article and find out exactly which documents he cites and why. Also, just because the head of a certain Jewish society today says someone from 600 years ago was not Jewish does not make it so. This is merely excludable opinion unless backed up by facts. --139.80.18.108 22:33, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Also, trying to undermine Lasocki's view by claiming that it is "older" does not help and introduces the editor's POV. Maybe being older makes it more authoritative as first research in the area. It should be up to the reader to decide; the citations are provided. --139.80.18.108 22:33, 12 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Adding the Rowse and McBride information was helpful, and shows some balance. I put in everyone's titles and institutions, since Associate Prof. McBride's was there. I hope we can find more information to beef up the article. Anyway, it is much better now than when we started. --139.80.18.108 00:10, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I'm afraid I have removed the Rowse claim as I just checked the correspondence and the claim was not made by Rowse at all- merely a letter from Chaim Raphael (in response to Rowse's original piece) speculated that the Bassanos might be Jewish as he knew that there was a flourishing Jewish community around Bassano from the 13th century and he had always "taken it for granted that the Dark Lady was Jewish" (Times, Feb.15th, 1973, pg.19). Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 00:15, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I am fine with removing the Rowse claim for the reason you cited. However, if it is important to know the title and affiliation of McBride, it is equally important to know the affiliations of the other two people cited here. Why did you remove them? It's obvious from the article's edit history that you've been trying to undermine Lasocki and introduce POV problems by biasing the article towards your point of view. I don't care if McBride was "persuaded" or if you are, there are differing views, each supported by published evidence, and this needs to be presented fairly and neutrally. I have asked others to take a look at this article and give their input.--139.80.18.108 02:34, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Sorry but there isn't a conspiracy here. I put in the article that Lasocki is Dr. (which you omitted) and it is necesssary to say where McBride is an Associate Professor of you can't just say she is an Associate Professor. You say you don't care whether McBride is persuaded- I think she has a tad more expertise on the matter than you I imagine. Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 02:45, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I wonder why you think she is such an expert. Do a Google Scholar search and you'll find only one article from her on Lanier's poetry. And it was only cited by others once--she's hardly Noam Chomsky. What is your reasoning for considering her such an expert? I agree with the comments above Gustav's. All of the titles of everyone being cited need to be included, if one person's is. The article should be reverted back to include both Lasocki's title and affiliation, and Ruffatti's as well. --124.197.51.91 04:29, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Gustav is now editing out others' comments from the talk page. He needs to be banned.

Absolute nonsense. Gustav von Humpelschmumpel 10:17, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Mini-bios on references[edit]

This is an article on Bassano - there is no need to document the bios of the reference authors. - Tiswas(t) 15:47, 13 June 2007 (UTC)[reply]

So glad we got rid of your friend Gustav, the sock puppet. Now we can actually edit the article again and don't have to waste time arguing with him.--MoebiusFlip (talk) 01:44, 7 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There is far too much on whether or not his family was Jewish. This is not a place for an academic argument. If Gustav wanted to write a book about the subject and cite these things, that's one thing. As it is, it is completely sufficient to say that the Bassanos may have been Jewish, but that there is disagreement between scholars.--Andy (talk) 11:04, 22 April 2008 (UTC)[reply]
