Not actually an abolitionist[edit]

He had a slave of his very own and his "Essay on the Treatment and Conversion of African Slaves in the British Sugar Colonies" doesn't call for abolition; at the urging of his friends he removed all the political sections and they may have contained something on abolition, but the published version doesn't. He was calling for practical recognition of the moral rights of slaves, but not for their emancipation. Maybe he would if it hadn't seemed so obviously impractical, but he didn't. I'd like to suggest a name change for this page, to James Ramsay (commentator on slavery) or something of the sort. Richard Keatinge (talk) 21:19, 6 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]
