Encyclopedia entry or CV?[edit]

This whole article should be cut back to the bones. The bloke isn't famous enough to warrant this length of entry and it reads as though it was written by its subject; the discussion of magazines reads like an advertisement, and is without either counterpoint or indeed references. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 90.201.130.83 (talk) 22:42, 9 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

It does look like it's himself or some buddy promoting him. The user danjude123 (no longer around on WP) is responsible for much of the present article, including the opening where he hails JB as follows: "He is best known for creating the modern men's magazine market with the launch of his title Loaded in 1994, a magazine that was said to define a generation. James is now one of the most sought after opinion formers and thinkers on men’s lifestyles, new business development and market creation, and the media and entertainment worlds." Not a word though about how Conde´Nast fired him after he had placed a photo of General Rommel with a swastika armband in a gallery of "style icons" in GQ. I can see why Brown would want to forget that... :D It comes out as obvious promo writing.
I only know about this guy because I read Toby Young's How to Lose Friends and Alienate People, where he gives a hilarious account of how he interviewed Mr.Brown for Vanity Fair, and badly affected his own career in the process by snorting coke together with his countryman...The guy deserves about five lines of text plus references.Strausszek (talk) 23:18, 16 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Recent article expansion[edit]

This article has a long history of fluffy, (self-)congratulatory, hyperbolic writing about the guy. Over the last few months it's been ballooned again from a more slim, factual format - on April 6 one unnamed IP editor, who could be Brown himself, added a lot of laudatory material - that IP hasn't contributed anything else on WP - and two months later another IP editor added more in a decidedly more anti-Brown tone. Eh, the man is a fairly minor figure in the British magazine world and as one guy cited in the current article says "there are a lot of one-hit wonders out there". 83.254.154.164 (talk) 12:15, 1 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]
