The "don't call me chief" bit[edit]

I;m sorry but I don't get this. Why is this important? I'm thinking it has something to do with the actor earlier on but there's no other mention of the line in the article and it just hangs there. --Drmike (talk) 21:01, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Agreed. Too much insignificant detail about the role rather than the actor--stuff that should appear not here but maybe in the film's article. I've excised much of it. Monkeyzpop (talk) 21:14, 2 March 2011 (UTC)[reply]

"Illegitimate"[edit]

It might sound a little too PC, but I dislike referring to a child as "illegitimate." Unfortunately, the alternatives that comes to mind are wordy and awkward. PurpleChez (talk) 19:45, 15 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your discomfort. How about the old "without benefit of marriage/outside of marriage" or new "baby daddy"? Or better still just use the extra words and simply state what it is IF that is necessary at all. OOPs ShayONeal (talk) 19:54, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Additional accolades[edit]

He was nominated for two Emmies for Hennesey in 1961 and 1962. Then changed his career to mostly directing for which he WON a couple of Emmies. One for MASH episode and one for The White Shadow pilot. 24.143.226.129 (talk) 19:45, 6 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Mabel Leonard[edit]

Removed claim that Cooper's mother was a child actress. There was a dubious source on the claim; as far as I can tell no RS for Cooper (nor his autobiography) makes such a claim. There was a child actress in New York named Mabel Leonard in the late 19th century; that actress's birth name was Anna Messam and she was born in England in 1865. I have also seen an article in which Harry Carey mentions a Mabel Leonard as one of the most beautiful early movie actresses. There may have been (more than one) Mabel Leonard, child actress, but was she Jackie Cooper's mother? That is the citation that is needed. Richigi (talk) 16:53, 2 October 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Cooper says in his autobiography (p. 27) that Mabel was a pianist who worked in music stores, demonstrating sheet music, until she met John Cooper (also a pianist, and a songwriter) and either married him or didn't (Cooper's own sources conflict on this), and became pregnant with Jackie. "NADIR"? Are you kidding?[edit]

There's an idiotic line, 'His career was at a nadir when he starred in two popular television sitcoms, NBC's The People’s Choice with Patricia Breslin and CBS's Hennesey with Abby Dalton. '

His nadir? He has one highly-regarded comedy series for three seasons with over 100 episodes on one major network, followed by another on the other major network in which he not only starred but co-produced? How on earth is that a "nadir"? Unless you're talking about a George Nader. Two solidly-performing, serially renewed TV series over a period of six years? That alone would qualify him for Wikipedia inclusion.

Plus the line is chronologically misplaced. That's the mid 1950s through the early 1960s, and then it flips back to 1950.Ted Newsom (talk) 16:56, 15 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you for your work on this article. Your position on the sentence in question is valid and I support your edit but find the sarcasm and tone of your post out of step with Wikipedia's code of conduct on civility, which is one of Wikipedia's five pillars. I have violated that code, myself, but changed my behavior when I became aware of it and realized how unkind and sarcastic my posts were. Just bringing it to your attention. Lede[edit]

The lede focuses (with undue-weight) on only one aspect of the subject's early acting achievement and does not properly state what the article cites; given the vast life and career of Cooper. I propose a scrub (reducing the mention of being a child actor to one line) and expand on Adult Years accomplishments and contributions. Maineartists (talk) 19:27, 21 July 2020 (UTC)[reply]
