Correcting errors in the lede[edit]

I removed from the lede "Italy had already invaded some coastal regions of the Ethiopian Empire in 1890, founding Italian Eritrea." For a good reason: the Ethiopian Empire did not extend to the coast in the 19th century. The coast was Turco-Egyptian:

Since the middle of the sixteenth century, the Red Sea and Somali Coast region was under the nominal suzerainty of the Ottoman Empire. In actuality, however, local Muslim potentates exercised effective control. The situation was changed in 1866 when the provinces of Suakin and Massawa were ceded to Ismail Pasha, the Khedive of Egypt, by the Ottoman sultan. The Khedive maintained that the latter province extended as far as Cape Guardafui and in the ensuing years Egyptian warships visited and laid claim to the Somali Coast. By 1875, the two major towns, Berbera and Zeila, were under effective Egyptian occupation. Berbera was seized outright and Zeila was purchased from its sultan, the slave dealer Abu Bekr, who remained as the Egyptian governor or pasha. From Zeila, Egyptian troops under the command of Raouf Pasha, moved into the interior and conquered the state of Harar, which for several centuries had been a Muslim emirate. (T. Natsoulis, ARTHUR RIMBAUD: TRADE AND POLITICS IN NORTHEAST AFRICA 1880 - 1891: Part I, Northeast African Studies, (Michigan State University Press) Vol. 3, No. 2 (1981), p. 49.

The article Ethiopian Empire contains the same error (Italy, seeking a colonial presence in Africa, invaded Ethiopia and following a successful conquest of some coastal regions, forced the Treaty of Wuchale upon Shewa (an autonomous kingdom within the Ethiopian Empire). That will need to be corrected as well.--Lubiesque (talk) 21:04, 6 January 2019 (UTC)[reply]

This wiki should not exist[edit]

This seems to be a duplicate of the already existing Italian East Africa wiki, there was no such thing as an "Italian Ethiopia" because it was split into multiple governorates. Somalia and Eritrea were two different governorates, so it make sense there would be articles for those, but there was no "Ethiopian" governorate, so this is basically a duplicate of the Italian East Africa wiki.

Also, I find it fascinating how the Italians don't consider "Italian Ethiopia" ending till after their guerilla warfare, yet they do put a definite end to the Ethiopian Empire even if Ethiopian guerilla warfare never ended during the whole occupation, in fact, the Italians never conquered all of Ethiopia fully. Looking at the bad grammar and Italian Bias, I can only deduce it is mostly Italians writing this article. We should remember that the total loss in Ethiopia, due to the war, outweighs the total gained. That is, the italians destroyed more infrastructure and killed more lives than they could ever pay back, in my personal opinion, instead of Colonizing a far away place just for 30,000 Italians and putting in millions of dollars into another country, they should have fixed their own. I digress, so please make sure your links aren't dead and add citations. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Tomokokuroki (talkcontribs) 20:44, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]

They did controlled ethiopia almost fully, 20 millions worth built civil infrastructure, several thousands italian settlers, the offensives staged from there against the british colonies(thats a big one, u cannot attack and invade [british somaliland] if your rear is not safe) and italian [guerilla] would had not happened otherwise. Wathever resistance remained was limited to the mountainous regions and ready to surrender by the 40s. 80.116.169.192 (talk) 14:23, 2 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Fascist Italy called Italy[edit]

The article generalises in various points between the Kingdom of Italy, occupied Fascist Italy and Italy, which generally refers to the Republic of Italy. I think referring to the crimes committed by an illegitimate dictatorship as being committed by 'Italy' creates the scope for misinterpretations and gives the impression the crimes were committed by the country that effectively was also the recipient of crimes by said dictator and dictatorship. 2A02:C7C:A689:FB00:1006:190:BE26:A74D (talk) 22:21, 29 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]
