Sighted?[edit]

Err, are they born blind or made blind? I think I get it but this article should be rewritten to be less confusing. -- Mkill 00:48, 9 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

I'm fairly certain they're born blind, owing to the title of a page which is unfortunately no longer available - "Itako: A Spritual Occupation for Blind Japanese Girls." I'm going to add it in; someone correct it if I'm wrong. Dbutler1986 (talk) 17:01, 27 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Religion[edit]

Are these Itako associated with a religion? It mentions "priests". Are they Shinto, Buddhist, or something else? Boneyard90 (talk) 19:07, 15 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
