Muslim Population Figure Is Wrong

Nowhere does the Pew study cited either state or suggest anywhere that the 2020 global population for Muslims is 1.9 billion. Please, show where it so states. https://www.pewresearch.org/religion/2011/01/27/the-future-of-the-global-muslim-population/

According to the Pew study, in 2010 (the last year with reliable data), the global Muslim population was 1.6 billion. Pew does, however, project -- "project," mind you -- that Islam's global population will be 2.2 billion by 2030. But, that's an educated guess based on current rates of growth.--Mwidunn (talk) 19:36, 12 January 2024 (UTC)

Fun Facts

“ The study found more Muslims in the United Kingdom or Francethan in Lebanon and more in Russia or China than in Syria. Also, Ethiopia has more Muslims than Afghanistan. The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has more Muslims than any other Muslim-majority countries except Indonesia, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Nigeria, Egypt, Iran and Turkey.”

what’s the purpose of this paragraph? Is Wikipedia a curator of fun interesting factoids? This needs to be removed. 100.4.105.230 (talk) 18:41, 14 September 2023 (UTC)

No, these are just bizarre and rambling comparisons. It's removed. Iskandar323 (talk) 06:16, 15 September 2023 (UTC)

UK Muslim population decreased on table by 1.7 million.

User:NebY decided to remove the updating of Muslims in the UK, removing 1.7 million British Muslims, dropping the percentage from 6.6% to 3.3%, because of the figures not including Scottish Muslims, recorded in 2011 as being 76,737, 3% of British Muslims. The alternative was to add a note stating this, rather than keeping 2.1 million lower figure, which appears to be taken from a 2016 article rather than direct from census data. It's a messy situation and will be until we get the Scottish results due in Summer 2024, though we do have figures for Northern Ireland now (Table MS-B20). Which figures should we use for the total population and the percentage? If we exclude Scotland from the total, we understate the UK's overall population. If we give only the percentage of Muslims in England and Wales in 2021, then if (as seems likely) the percentage in Scotland is lower and given that the percentage in Northern Ireland is lower, then we overstate the UK percentage. Yet if we stick with 2011 census figures, we understate the current number of Muslims. Has no WP:RS attempted a synthesis of the 2021 England and Wales figures with the published Northern Ireland ones and informed estimates for Scotland? NebY (talk) 18:17, 26 September 2023 (UTC)
